PP Saws
Stihl MaGnUm
Yes I have ported a few of the 385s and I can achieve the same gains as with any other of the Elecrolux quad port set ups.I have only done one of the 3120s,that was about three years ago.I came up with the brain storm that I needed one, purchased a new one. After porting it preformed really well but I couldn't justify carrying all of that weight around,it found a new home. They can be made to run very well but when they are in stock form they are slow.
At a local fair a few month ago,my Husky dealer sponsored a chain competition, all stock saws(he wouldn't let me compete)
He had one of every size Husky saw there for demos if anyone wanted to run them,I also took along some PP saws for the public to play with.
Our test log was an 18" round poplar log.I made three cuts in that log with a PP372,3/8 chisel chain, round filed, two cuts down and one up.I then used a new 3120 with round ground 404 chain and make the same three cuts.Granted the chain 404 chain had a wider cut and the saw was not broken in.I really was curios to find out how much slower my PP372 cut then the 3120.I looked at my dealer with the stop watch,he had a frown on his face,I actually out cut the 3120 by 4 seconds flat in those three cuts. Both saws where then ran by other people and the 372 was the winner each time, not by the 4 second margin but it was still quicker.
Tony will have that beautiful PP372 today,UPS tracking number is 1Z4575020348122226
woodsjunkie will be here on Thursday or Friday to pick up a pair of PP2149s that I just finished. He is also going to bring a stock Husky 394 along.I will take a picture of him right after I out cut that Husky 394 with the Big Creeps(mryb) little PP372.I could be wrong but I do think the PP372 will win.Maybe he will have to take a picture of me crying,we will see.
We will play with a few saws when he arrives, take some pictures and time some cuts. Will post the results ASAP.
