Could be the low rpms but might need cleaned/degreaser too. Just make sure that decomp isn't hanging open.
Is the decomp on that saw the spring loaded part coming out of handle to that plastic knob market start? Im still learning, but that's what I figured it was after going over the saw.

Mathew,I'll need measurements across the cup & depth. It's OK if you do it in metric, but inches is preferred.

Brufab, sounds like your saw could benefit from a 1/4 turn out on the lo needle.

I got the Monkey Wards 4.0 running! I took the points out for a cleaning, they were filthy black, but no pitting.I took the top off the Tilly carb & a good thing I did.The pump diaphragm was stuck to everything.Lots of oil in /on the diaphragm which probably saved it.The choke rod was in 2 pieces,I just stuck it back together for starting purposes.I'll have to see about JB Welding it back together.I usually give a saw 15 pulls, then anything after that I'll give it a prime. The saw sputtered on pull #13,Lol.Runs,idles,& throttles up beautifully.

Ok I'll get those measurements tomorrow. I've got a set of Vernier calipers which work in inches.

The MW 4.0 is 65cc.I think a 20 in.bar would be too little & a 24 in.might be a bit much.The perfect size would be 22 in.,but I don't think I've ever seen a D176 mount bar in 22 in.I bought a couple Partner 22 in.bars & modified them to fit my 5-10 & 7-10 Macs.

My pl5 loves the 20" bar, also good balance. Pl4 likes the 16" I am planning on buying all new bars for them as close as period correct and probly 16" so they all take the same chain.

Hi fellas, how similar are the Remington pl6 and pl7? I'm looking to aquire some spare parts while they are still available. Seems as though some Remington part #'s remain the same over different models but it also looks as if the same parts may have different #'s. Is the pl7 just a newer version of the pl6? Thanks guys!

I looked at bars on Feebay last night after posting here & I can't believe how they've gone up in just a couple weeks.I guess I won't be buying any new bars in the near future,Lol.I also thought that I can take one of my 22 in.bars off one of my Macs & put it on the 4.0.I can then put a 24 in.bar on the 70cc Mac.

Edju1958, got the dimensions, hopefully you they're clear enough. The last photo is of the inside depth of the cup, from the top lip of the cup to the bottom of the inside of the cup.

Remington chain

It's getting awfully quite in here........
Let's talk Remington guide bars and chains. Two of my 754's have .058 gauge bars and the others have .063. All are running. 404 pitch chain. I just purchased a Super 770 with the original Remington chain stamped HE. It appears to be .058. Anybody out there familiar with the evolution of Remington bars and chain?
Good question! My 754s have 063 but the 660s have 058, a 21" rollernose on pl5 was running 050 but 058 fits just fine. All the bars have the same # but there's 2 letters after that. Do those letters designate gauge? Some have said after wearing out the bar some they went to the next size chain. A pl7a I just got came with 058 chain and 24" roller-nose. Was 058 the standard all large remingtons came with in the pl and super series? 4 out of 6 saws I acquired came with 058 on them

My 770 has an 063 chain, I was hoping it was 058 and I could replace the chain with 063 because the chain is very sloppy in the bar rail. I don't think there is any commonly available 404 chain thicker than 63.

Matthew, there's a chain called a Harvestor chain used by professionals that's .080.Quite common around here.

I put an 18 in.bar & chain on my MW 4.0 ,the chain is stamped T5 & I believe it's .058 gauge. It didn't do much good though because Remington had the worst automatic oiler on the market & NEITHER of my oilers works.I guess I have to use the saw with a 55 gal.drum of used oil nearby to dip the bar & chain in periodically.POS oiler!

Wow both don't work? I still haven't had much time with any of my remingtons. Hoping this weekend I can mess around with them I have 10 total now. I got them all to run and function but not much after that. I have 2 automatic oiler ones and the rest manual.

So you got the points cleaned up and have spark? And now the oilers don't work?

That's good to know. Doesn't seem to be available here though.
When I'm cutting I normally have used gear oil in a bottle with a hole in the cap and pour a bit of oil on the bar/chain every now and again. I do that mostly on manual oiler saws because they generally get less oil to the bar. Depends on how often you remember to pump it of course.
