Yes, I'm pretty sure they're interchangeable, but I'd need to check mine, or compare part #s in the IPLs.

I was hoping that this would be a sleeper (yeah, right). Is it a Super 660?

VINATGE WARDS CHAINSAW TMC24060A MONTGOMERY WARD 19'' BAR | eBay

It's UGLY for sure...........660 is not a bad guess, but the muffler looks wrong, could have been switched. I'd go with a bantam.

As for carb box lid???? do you mean air filter cover? If so, yes, PL-4, 5, 55, SL-4, 11, 55 are all interchangeable. John Deer 17, 19, 23 will all work as well. The original PL series will have "powerlite" embossed on the cover, where as the SL series will be smooth as well as the John Deer.

Any idea on the saw ID or, do I need better pics?

Looked at the saw long and hard. With the newer style muffler it falls in the range of an SL-9, but more than likely it's and SL-10 or 14

Sorry for the late reply

That saw is gorgeous. Very nice job.
Color looks spot on.

Thanks! I hate to admit it, but I've just been too busy to visit the site lately. Finishing up an early issue, eye popping Super 754 now. I'll try to post some photos, and do a better job of contributing to the thread. Happy holidays.....maybe Santa will drop an 880 or 990 on our porch. LOL.

Glad to see you back, been missing your posts and pics. Just hit you with a rep for past and future posts.

Sorry about that :msp_sad:.

I hope the saw doesn't need more than the usual lines, carb cleaning/rebuild kit, etc.

Yeah, really.

The part that got me was "sitting on a shelf in dry storage". Hopefully someone put it up who knew what the heck they were doing.

This one makes my third Monkey Wards Whatzit saw. Half the fun is the investigation.

Feels like very good compression and popped on a shot of prime. The blue paint is original. The fuel tank was clean with no corrosion and passed the 'sniff' test. (A first in my experience.) Spark seems a little weak and had a Champion J6J plug in him. (Another first.) Looks like a 16" bar #A 4013 LJ (Remington number). WIDE! A loop of really 'done for' 3/8" chain.

At first I thought it was a left hand start Bantam but now I.D.K..

The muffler indicates a Bantam. The starter cover indicates a later issue. Which carb is is wearing, Carter or Tilly?

The carb. is a Tillotson. Finally broke down and bought a new steering wheel puller from Sears to pull the flywheel. After I filed and gapped the points he is a runner. Got him fired up in the garage and then carried him out into the driveway. You can see the sparks flying out of the exhaust stack in the dark. Literally blew the cobwebs out of him.

I'll have to wait till Monday to get a loop of chain.

We be smilin'.:msp_thumbsup:

I was with sawdust on the muffler, but some of those are interchangeable. The cylinder flange is the same, a lot of times they just changes the shape of the deflector. I had the same issue with the choke lever on my 770 until I realized that the Tillotson carb was not OEM. It was originally shipped out of the factory with a Carter carb. The choke on/off works in the opposite direction ofthe Tillotson. My giveaway was that the H/L screws could not be adjusted thru the side. Some of the older production saws had the Carter, then tillotson was installed in the later ones. I have no idea what the ratio is(carter to Tilly), or when, during production, the switch was made. It's either a Bantum or a 660. Glad it's a runner. Your pics of the blue Mystery Monster are a lot better than the ones in the listing.
