I'm just messing with Carl, to each his own.

That said, what John Deere chainsaw have you seen consistently bring the prices of the Allis Poulans? Those things are money in the bank.

Chris B.

Oh great, I just deleted my long response.

My point is using a saw with limited value, be it a Remington or a Poulan, to rebuild the saw with more value, be it a John Deere or an Allis Chalmers, makes sense. I didn't imply--at least I don't think that I did--that a JD saw has the same value as an AC.

SL-55 performed well yesterday. Two turns open on the oiler adjustment for the 24" X 3/8" bar. It even would idle good between cuts.

Plan is to switch the rim for .404" and mount a 20".

The clutch is a bit smallish on the 82cc Remys. Same clutch as the PL/SL-4 & 5.

There are two interesting Remington saws on eBay. One is clearly labelled a PL-5, the other one appears to be a SL-5 partially disassembled. With BIN & Best Offer, & shipping, both could be had for a bit less than $100.00 (the BO could lower the price).

Chris, you are overdo. I'll shoot you a link to the next PL/SL-55 I find.[emoji108]

Me, or Chris cbfarmall? You're first on my contact list if I happen to find a Super 990. Don't hold your breath, the market for vintage and/or decent used chainsaws in & near Houston sucks.

Edit--Carl, have you read Mike Acres bio at his site? He was a rep for Remington, which probably explains why his site has so much Remington info & so many images.

You, Bean has Mark to help him. [emoji849]

Broke the recoil spring on my $26 Wards 5.0" today. Well I guess it's about time to at least clean him up. Spent an hour on the starter bending a new anchor loop etc. Rest of him gets cleaned next.
