Emerad ash borer has been devastating to the woodlots around here. Most of the woods that haven't been converted to farmland were in low areas with seasonal water. Ash trees are one of the few local species that can handle it and therefore are(were) a predominant species in most of the local woods. Lots of people are planting swamp oaks and silver maples to replace the loss.

I will miss the ash trees. It made damn fine underrated lumber and pretty darn good firewood. On the upside, it's good to be a woodpecker now!
It’s a pretty sad affair with regards to the beetle damage. My area has a great variety of species with lowlands and uplands. In one woodlot we have some Ash, Beech, Birch, Cherry, Hemlock, Maple, Pine, Oak, and some Spruce. The damage to mast bearing trees has me flummoxed. Oak is the last one in my immediate area due to beech bark disease and no Hickory.

What kind of phone do you have? When you take a picture with it the pic should be saved somewhere on your phone. Mine goes to my pic gallery. When I hit attach files (lower left)my gallery comes up. I tap the picture and in the upper right it says done. I tap that and the pic appears below my post. It will ask thumbnail or full image. Tap which one and hit post reply. We'll get you through this. We need pics of all that willow and your new 400. :) View attachment 1077621

You obviously have some rimmed cartridges that I'm not familiar with, and unless my eyes are deceiving me, some are in the process of being formed.

Please share what we are looking at!

Getting back into the dating pool in my early 40s really is an eye-opening experience.

The one thing you realize is there’s just a lot of damaged people out there and you are not going to fix them. If a gal has been single for a long time, there’s usually a reason why. And that reason is usually either them or because they go after the wrong type of guy.

Also, broken people will go after broken people and reject people that they assume to be normal. Case in point, a broken woman would rather have the guy who just got out of jail for abusing his ex-wife than a good guy with a stable job. Seen it happen many times.

I still haven’t figured out the attraction to dad bods lol but I guess I prefer women a little on the curvy side as well, so it makes sense.

Yep, rescue a damsel in destress, you get a distressed damsel, ask me how I know .
Finding a woman that doesn't need fixed is as difficult as finding one that doesn't think she's gonna fix you  .
Good luck on the hunt, at least you got the dad bod to help out :).

Chipper Chipper quite the quipper.

Measure the length of the splits as you cut them? Does your stove complain if they are an inch short or long?? lol

I can guess close enough as I cut, and if I want to check them, I use the length of the bar on my saw to check one.

No, for wood that's for my own use, I could care less if it's 16" or 20". But for the firewood that I sell, I'd like to get it as close to 16" as possible so that people that buy the wood are getting what they paid for as much as can. And I want to be able to do all of this as fast as possible without having to retrace my steps at all if I don't have to.

It can be fun and easier the older you get too... The BS things that used to get in the way seem to go away... Grocery shopping can be fun... women approach you and start flirting. I went to a non-motorized transportation presentation last evening. "Big name" people spoke (like the guy who implemented CitiBike in NYC). There were a lot of women there that I know to varying degrees. By the end of the event I had two bicycling and one hiking invitation... all "business related" of course. 😉 My girlfriend would not be pleased to know that... and I'd be an idiot to mess up that relationship.

Note that this stuff started happening after I took my "knight in shining armor" armor, crushed it, and threw it into the recycling. Trying to fix things is a bad path... even for adventurers! 😉
