It's an okay set up...almost the best I can do for the space constraints. The entire space is only 30'x35' and I park 2 pickups in there...and several motos. Besides the small welding area, I've got my mill and lathe on the opposite wall. Also a 30' long workbench that runs the entirety of the back wall.

In the near future, I might build an enclosed carport so I can move one of the trucks outside. I was also thinking of adding a 10x35 room off the side of the shop and moving all the welding and machining tools into that. At the very least, building a lean-to in order to move the 80 gallon 2 stage, noisy AF compressor outside.

You've got a big head start on me for sure! I'm just glad I've gotten a start lol.
Who knows where I'll go with it all, but for now I'm just feeling very blessed to have a roof over some concrete . It's already been nice to be able to start a project and to be able to leave it for a day and not have to clean everything up before it rains or snows, that gets old real quick and I've been doing that for over 30yrs(except when I've been able to work in buddies garages/barns).
I may get to do a bit on it tomorrow depending on the weather, not that I couldn't find something under the roof to do, theres plenty that needs done. I'm just itching to get started on the wainscoting/siding, it will look and feel a lot more finished than it currently is.

Managed to get a bit more cleaned up out back on Saturday.
Theres a good sized cherry branch and a red oak that was damaged by that branch/the tree it's attached to just above the tractor in this picture we got down and cleaned up.

Then we got this one out of the pond and the other top and since I was still feeling a bit frisky I got the logs off above the "Y" and then a couple more off above the root ball. Before I cut the two off the base I made sure I got the root ball all loosened up, so now it just has a couple more 16" rounds I need to buck off it and I can toss it on the bonfire pit after the last big root ball is finally burned up.

I was glad I didn't break the tractor in half :surprised3:, but I didn't really think that would happen.

Second night in a row firing up the stove

It’s that time of year, cold in the morning and evening but sweaty at noon
Wow, sweaty by noon. I don't think we got over 40 all day, and rainy and windy as well. Miserable weather to be out there bucking rounds as far as I'm concerned. But I did buck another face cord or so.

Man, I'd love to have a forestry winch Chip. I just can't justify the cost of a new one though when I have other things that I need first. I'll have to wait until I find a good deal on a used one, or I get all of my other priorities taken care of first.

Love the wood pile too!

I rarely ever see a logging winch for a cheap or reasonable price around me.

They sure come in handy.
I found this one a couple hrs away used. There are a couple companies that are dealers in the lower peninsula, not sure up your way, but probably in WI there are.
When I got mine it was just for doing firewood to sell, a buddy had 40 acres logged and we were going to be pulling tops out and then cutting them up for firewood. I was a bit more ambitious than he was and since it was his property...
That's just one pile, I have a two log piles, and the woodshed is filled for this season and next. That pile will mostly be sold, but I've been putting some of my black locust rounds on there that I plan on pulling off there and putting into the woodshed for 25/26 season when I split that pile up. Gotta be thinking ahead a bit .

They're hard to even find for sale here. I've considered upgrading to a new one with remote control, since I mainly use it for falling and it makes me money, but with having a job so I'm not as dependent on that income it's less of a priority. I've been considering a lift, want to talk about not cheap, price a 90' lift :envy::envy::envy::envy::envy::envy:.

floor mite be a lil to clean for me, though!!!

lol j/k ~

Found this bees nest on the ground under our 2nd story deck. We hadn't seen it before today. It was empty.
I know a guy who brought a nest like that into his house. Soon as the nest got warm he had a swarm of pissy hornets in his living room.
i bet the guy soon had an empty house, too! yikes!

hornets gone wild in the house!! :surprised3: 👎

i prefer to split firewood in fall/cool months vs summer. usually, i will gather the small splitting chips and make a close-in fire... for heat, to clean the area and ambiance, too!

Beautiful, and CLEAN shop Sierra! I like what you have. I've got a little ways to go before I'm done setting mine up yet. Kind of like Chipper mentioned. I'll probably be spending a lot more time out there than I do during the Spring/Summer.
not sure he said that... spending more time out there with no walls, no heat... and such! lol.... ;)

mine is nice even in winter. summer ok, but no a/c. winter... well, has two estate sized Majestic woodburning fp in it. one in main shop and one in 2nd floor office... one warms up though carrying the fw up to it.... 😋

If that little stick breaks the tractor…you got a sad tractor 🤪

that pond ever gonna see water? 🤣

I'm not posting any pictures of my garage here! It's a Mess with a capital M! I have a stick welder with a variety of electrodes and hand tools. While I would like to have an AC Tig machine, I feel I'd have to do side jobs to pay for it. If I really need to, I can use the equipment at work. I used to do side work but I got burned out on it and now just tinker for myself. I've been living welding and millwrighting for 30+ years. I enjoy my trade but when I get home, I want to do something different.
suit urself! 🤩 but... we  shop pix of any sort! at least, i do! there is always a space clean enuff to do some work, or something. i am glad cooler weather is here, i plan to do some shop clean up and such... i like JpJ's big bench vise as much as i like MM's engine lathe!.... 😋

i wonder if his drill mill is an Enco or? those $980 units can now run $2K or more if table is x-y digital...

heck! i even like chipper's rusty green Wilton vise, too!.... (but if it was mine, it would be gray! )
