is that in your barn?
Yes. It's still got a dirt floor though. Bought this house about two years ago, and have been spending money on a bunch of other stuff so far. Was still going to do the concrete last year, but a buddy told me to hold off as the prices were high(er?) at that point. Then never even looked into it this year as I've been busy as heck. That's near the top of my list of priorities though, so I can try to mitigate the critters getting in.

My dad, Uncle Mustang and the biggest nephew are still up at camp. Just got out the shower and fired up the woodstove.

Wife was away visiting my oldest at college, first request when I got home, not put away your stuff….. it’s cold make a fire
for me would be... 'turn up the thermostat!' lol ;)

If that little stick breaks the tractor…you got a sad tractor 🤪

that pond ever gonna see water? 🤣
I know, if anyone was gonna break one I'd think I would have, sad seeing that one broke, wonder what happened . You've seen some of what I've done with mine, I feel as though I'm not being brutally abusive, but I've sure put it thru its paces .
It had some water in it this weekend lol.
That was a two yr project, I needed something to do when I didn't have any cash for the barn, I really had no intentions of finishing it this yr. I need to rent a tracked skid to finish digging it, then get the clay, then rent a tracked skid again to spread the clay. We had a big bonfire/party here this last weekend and a friend of ours was here I wanted to look at it, he has his own excavating company and does a lot of work at lake properties. He sends me pictures of him digging sand out of his pond, he's taking out a couple hundred yards at a time, his pond is a bit bigger than mine😆.

nice! has a bit of that backwoods wilderness appeal to it.... :numberone:
That's why we bought it. Lived outside of Chicago for 30 years and couldn't take it any longer. We were wanting a log home for most of that time, so when we were able to retire (relatively young) we decided to pull the trigger.

heck! i even like chipper's rusty green Wilton vise, too!.... (but if it was mine, it would be gray! )
I hate grey, too bad husky started using it. That being said, those grey 572 clutch covers look real nice on a jred 2166/72 or a 2165/71.
Maybe I'll paint my vise burnt orange  , it's my favorite color.

You've got a big head start on me for sure! I'm just glad I've gotten a start lol.
Who knows where I'll go with it all, but for now I'm just feeling very blessed to have a roof over some concrete . It's already been nice to be able to start a project and to be able to leave it for a day and not have to clean everything up before it rains or snows, that gets old real quick and I've been doing that for over 30yrs(except when I've been able to work in buddies garages/barns).
I may get to do a bit on it tomorrow depending on the weather, not that I couldn't find something under the roof to do, theres plenty that needs done. I'm just itching to get started on the wainscoting/siding, it will look and feel a lot more finished than it currently is.

I'm actually just a bit envious of your situation...you get to do it from the ground up, build it your way. The footprint of mine came with the house, I would've done things a little different if I was doing a ground-up build. My mods were LED lights(and way more of them,) the cabinets/storage space/workbench, 2 different 220v circuits, and of course the fancy paint scheme. I need more wall space, I'm just about out of it.

I here you on the feeling of being blessed. Before I bought my house, I was renting...tiny little garage, couldn't even fit a small pickup inside of it. It sucked having to work on the truck out in the gravel, I couldn't even open the hood all the way on my truck at the time w/o hitting the garage door. Now, my shop is my favorite place to hang out at my house.👍

drill mill and the engine lathe says it for me! 👍

floor mite be a lil to clean for me, though!!!

lol j/k ~

I'm lucky to have them, both were incredible deals. The tooling that came with the lathe, alone was worth what I payed for it. Technically a "gunsmith" lathe, as it has the threaded spiders, so you can chuck up a barrel in it.

The drill mill was a once-in-a-lifetime sort of deal...payed $250 for the mill and the table it came on. The business that had it was closing up, they basically manufactured tables like the one that it sits on. They only used it at a drill press, so the ways are still in good shape on it. I really want a Bridgeport, but I want lots of things.

Both of them have payed for themselves many times over. I've done quite a few saw cylinders on that lathe.

What animals are getting in.

Good thing you got out when you did, the animals have gotten even worse there:innocent:.
Great site that shows just how stupid it's gotten there.
https://heyjackass.comWhat's funny is I drive thru the south side somewhat frequently, people always ask aren't you afraid of getting shot; nope, it's primarily black on black crime, how sad.
Sure you're liking your taxes up there :).

good thing them WWII battleships and carriers didn't mind color gray! just watched (recorded) the docuvids on the Yorktown...

my 2 (on my shop bench, urban) Craftsmans original red still. my 3" Wilton machinst vise (had 2) is factory gray! i think gray for such a fine tool is ideal. 1696909955272.png can millions of wiltons be wrong?? 🤷‍♂️

orange would be nice. with rust, u r almost there. some clear on the orange could set it off! of course, u wouldn't want to scratch it!!!

I agree, it's nice setting it up the way you want. That being said, I've had to work the property a good bit to make it all work, and it's not really what I wanted(then again what house/barn/property is). My wife is pleased that she's now getting a spot for her orchard, since we lost/I cut down the rest of the trees past the barn.
I have a ton of led lights in my shed, just need to get the basic shell finished and get my final inspection, then I plan on going to town with them and the wiring in general. My neighbor two doors down I help with tree work, and my BIL are both electricians and will help with whatever I need. One of the big things I hope to get done this fall here, is digging a trench for water and electric from the house to the barn. Then I need to tie in the house tp the barn electric so I can loose one meter(it will save me 30 a month), and bring water from the house to the barn. Both jobs have difficulty aspects, and involve a good bit of cash, also both need to wait until the shell is finished. Everything in its time.

So far, to my knowledge it's just mice and I'm guessing coons, as the scat I've seen recently was too large to be mice.

Ya, I never really lived anywhere close to the city. We were 7 miles from the WI/IL border, so where lived it wasn't "that bad", but it wasn't getting any better. I did work in the city quite a bit as a carpenter, and then later when I had my overhead door business, so that sucked badly enough, but luckily we didn't live there.

Don't answer him Jeff, he'll tell you you're chains aren't stacked up straight  .
aw, come on man! next thing u will say, don't, 'cause he will say your wood outside is not face flush, the big log stack by splitting rig...

and we all, or most know... i... would... not! :)

Can millions be wrong, absolutely!
But I try not to hold it agains them ;).
My dad had a vise that was grey, it was ugly too, I think it was a craftsman. Next time I'm over there I'll check, when I was a kid I used it way more than he did, it always had a little slop in it when going from one direction to the other, but it held well.
Yeah, maybe I'll just clear over that green and rust, give it that survivor look, wait, it is a survivor lol.
I would like to get a swivel base for it, other than that, it really needs nothing as I'm just gonna chip up any paint that would get put on it.

One can never have enough lighting in their workplace. I can't stand it when I have to work on something in low light conditions.

Not sure I told you before, but my grandparents owned the funeral home in Antioch.
I spent a lot of time up there in the summers, even went to school there for a bit in 2nd grade.
Glad we didn't stick around.
For mice a 5 gallon bucket trap is awesome, you can use antifreeze in it if you don't have any cats or dogs around.

:crazy2: imo, in ur case: optional. 🤷‍♂️

i rarely used the swivel on mine. but then they were more for fixed set up than just any old job a vise mite do. no need to spend the $$ on a Wilton machinist vise to hold some square tubing to hacksaw...

but, if you really want one...
