There is/was a gas station in Bennington, VT that sold guns. Charlie Wells, Guns and Mobil gas.
A number of them in my home state did. Every hardware store I went into sold ammo and some of the grocery stores.
I remember a shootout in my town. One guy found out his wife was not as loyal as he thought. One day driving down the road he saw the Paramore and decided the best course of action was to get out and start shooting. Other fella took exception and ran into the hardware store owned by a high school classmate of mine. "Hey, ***, give me a gun I'm being shot at". Buddy handed him a pistol from under the counter and guy ran outside to trade shots. No one hurt, luckily.

Scrounged up some reading material from the FIL's things today. Did I mention that he was a voracious reader? An entire room in their house was dedicated as a library and it's still FULL of books on a wide variety of topics. I only took a handful that were related to trees, logging, and chainsaws. I have read Chainsaws, a History before since we got it for him for Christmas several years ago. (A pre- read book does NOT count as regifting! LOL)20240720_203911.jpg

My oldest grandson and I went fishing in my canoe on Lake Tonetta today. Everything we caught was small (a Crappy, a Bluegill and 2 Bass) but we had fun just the same. I had not been fishing in a long time.

After checking prices on canoe haulers, I converted a deer hauler I do not use anymore to a canoe hauler, and it worked very well.

I just checked the trail camera up at the property and we had an active day!

4 full size Turkeys in the AM and a small bear in the PM!

We have also seen the little fawn 3 times now (I'm glad she survived this long), and she has lost her spots. Hopefully that means she is getting fast enough to stay ahead of the coyotes!

I have a place in the next state east of you and got a moose walking down the side of my hunting camp on one of mine. This one a small bull, last week I had a cow in the yard

She graduated from the aviation academy her high school has as a summer program. She has a log book now and has flown 5 hours already
Getting to this a bit late.
HUGE congratulations. There are SO many opportunities for kids to get involved in aviation.
Not just being a pilot.
The industry needs a lot of A&P mechanics, too.
Has she taken a Young Eagles flight? That get's her complementary EAA membership AND free online ground school from Sporty's.
I did ground school in college 30years ago and never had any money/time to actually pay for flight training.
Then I turned 48 & my wife said, "Stop dreaming about flying and go take some lessons"
So I paid for the Sporty's ground school course & it really helped me pass the written exam.
Good luck to your daughter & keep us posted on her progress.
And +1 on applying for EAA's Ray Aviation Scholarship. Find your local EAA chapter & get her involved w/them (like you have a ton of spare time). Some chapters are bulding planes (Vans RV, Sonex are examples) which is an incredible life experience.

Here’s a few pics from the trip. Caught oodles of walleyes and ate fish 11 times in 12 days.

For those not familiar with walleye, it is widely considered one of the best eating freshwater fish in North America.

Deep fried in a cast iron pan. Oh boy.

Hey Steve - what lakes did you go into? We were up there over 4th of July weekend. Went in @ EP41 Brule Lake, came out Juno-Vern-Homer.
Fishing was a bit slow b/c there was a mayfly hatch on & that's all they were eating - leeches on a white jig head on a bobber was the trick for us.

Also, while walleye IS some of the best-eating freshwater fish around, I will put in a plug for smallmouth in the BWCA. They fight like mad, absolutely HAMMER your baits, AND they have a very white meat that tastes almost as good as walleye.

Went and got a wood stove this morning for the shop. Needs some tlc, nothing I shouldn't be able to handle. My logging buddy got it for me, for "free". The right door is tweaked a bit, hoping I can get it straightened back out again.

Oh Man! Send me some! You're right about being the best tasting fish. Had some when I visited my Brother out in MT once. He fished a lake with a friend out in a boat with a cooler of beer an baked in the sun. But they caught coolers of Walleye.

We have Walleye/Sauger here in the tailwater of the Kaskaskia R. here in IL. But the water is muddy, not nearly as clear as up by you, an the fish taste OK, but not as good as from clear water.

Looks like an awesome trip! Never had Walleye as we don't have them here, but I hope to one day.
