I had seen the model listed on the Stihl website, but was not familiar with them. According to the specs, the model sounds like it has very good power and the weight sounds good too. I didn't even know if they were available at dealerships yet.

My guy works at a dealer and brought it to a GTG.

There is some info on this site..... use the search - MS400
My son has been running his 400 for about a month now..... he "upgraded" from a 362,
and likes the extra power - especially after making mods to the 400!

It sounds like the 400 is only available in certain areas. I called the distributor in North Carolina today and was told they were back ordered until mid October.

I have one. Limited use so far due to the heat.

Runs good... Souped up 362, a little. Sits on the same chassis. If I didn't have a 362, I would take it over the 362. Having both.... Its a toss up.

I have one, it is a little stronger version "baby" big brother of the 362.
Pulls a 25" bar easier than the 362, but that is it's max. The 20" bar is the ideal bar and chain for this unit just like the 362
The huge downfall to it is the muffler exhaust port area is a very piss poor design on it, exhaust blows down on the chassis and clutch cover.

I don't quite follow your comment, is this different from other chainsaws? Also, did you replace the felling spikes on your MS 400?

Yes I did modify and installed the Stihl skeleton spikes to put on my 400
The new Stihl small clutch covers on the saws are not worth a wooden nickel, they allow too much splatter and discharge wildly without control. So on my 400 I changed everything to the old school full length clutch cover including the chain brake spring cover. That is when I discovered the piss poor muffler design on this saw, it smoked my clutch cover and top of my chassis around the serial number area. The muffler should not have done this and no one will ever convince me that is normal and a good design.
