Ok, here it goes.... I know I've asked a lot about the 250 vs. the husky 350 but, at this point, I don't want to buy a husky because i feel like they are selling out their dealers by putting their saws in the big box stores. So, what Stihl saw is comparable to the Husky 350? It looks like I'll have to step up to the MS270 to get a saw with a little more horsepower. Does that sound right? Or, for just casual cutting, would the 250 be OK for me? Sorry for :deadhorse: but I need to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck as well as getting an equal or better saw. Also, I'd like an 18" bar. Thanks, Greg

Welcome. For what your described needs are the 250 will do just fine. It is a nice saw with plenty of power. Enjoy.

Well, you know, the testosterone kind of kicks in and I wonder if I've decided on the right one. Other comments? Thanks, Greg

The closest Stihl in terms of construction and intended usage is indeed the 250. The 270 is somewhat more ruggedly built from a design standpoint than the 350, but costs more as a result. For what you intend to use it for, either will be a major improvement over the Poulan you have now.

IMO, the MS250 is less of a saw than a 350. I think you've gotta get a 260 or a good used 026 to have a Stihl that works as well as a HU350. Light is very good; powerful is very good.

It looks like power wise, the MS270 is more powerful by .2 KW than the Husky 350. As a matter of fact, the 455 Rancher and the Stihl 270 have the same power rating. But, the husky 455 would weigh 1.1 lbs more. So, now I've hijacked my own thread. The question now becomes, the Stihl 270 or the Husky 350. Bare in mind that Husky is in the process of selling out their dealers by selling their saws at the big box stores.
Thanks, Greg

I'd go with Husky! Cheaper to buy online and March 1st is supposed to be end date for selling online so expect dealers coming into town!

They wont be back because they say they are changing their policy. I can see them telling Lowe's, Sears, Northern Hydraulics, Harbor Freight, Tractor Supply and the list goes on. Sorry but you can't sell online anymore. Dream on.

Ms250

You say you are an occasional woodcutter, so the MS250 sounds like it is right up your alley. My 250 does 90% of my cutting, and I've had no issues with it. I've got the 16" bar running RS chain, and when it's sharp (THE most important thing!) it spit out the chips with plenty of speed.

Still a 350 husky would outcut it... but seriously, there isnt a equal saw in stihls production line...

Well, like belly-buttons, everybody has their own opinion. And I guess that's why I hate this kind of thread, because it always ends up boiling down to everyone pushing their opinions and pet favorite saw, and nothing really gets accomplished.................:deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:
Same old, same old.......

Who really cases if a 350 is minutely better then a 250 (or vice versa), or 270 is better than a .. or.. For "casual cutting" the 250 is is fine saw. The 270/280 is nicer, but forget paper specs and just concentrate on whether a particular saw will do the job you need it to do... Many will.. and not just the 350/250/270 /whatever...

For what it's worth, I debated over the MS250 or MS270 for a short while and ended up with the MS270. I only cut a few cords a year with it now but I'm still glad I got the larger saw for when I need it. Personally, I think I would have been disappointed with the 250 since I occaisionaly need to cut larger trees then what I usually do. Right now in fact I'm looking at felling two 24"-30" Red Oak's in my backyard that I feel may have been too big for the 250. Heck, sometimes I wish I went all out and got a MS361. In any case, I'm very pleased with the MS270 and would recommend it based on what I use it for.

This saw cuts faster... this saw has more chain speed... this saw weighs 1.00000000345678 more pounds than the next... blah, blah, blah...

Get the saw that you have the best dealer support for. Where parts are available, and you can have it serviced if you so desire... not gonna happen if you buy a saw over the internet or at Wal-mart. Stihl, Husqvarna, Dolmar... make damn good saws, but.................

I won't recommend a pro level saw because you don't need it. The 250/270/350/455/### will work fine. Pick one that feels good to YOU. You are the one that has to run the thing. You can't pick up a saw and feel it in your hands that is sold on the internet. See my point here...

Good luck mang...

I bet some online dealers will still remain on EBAY.

Hi Greg;

I'm glad that you feel for us Husky guys. But if you like the 350, then why not just buy one from a Husky dealer and not a box store? It would be better to support us that way, than by excluding us in protest.

Plus, the 350 is proabably the best "bang for the buck" saw out there. They are very popular and very reliable.

Lemme get this straight. You've narrowed this down to one brand. You've narrowed it down to a class. You've narrowed it down to a price range. You still can't decide. Is that about it?

If you are only going to buy one saw in your lifetime, get the biggest you can afford. If you are going to buy a second saw at some point in time, you can go with light weight this time and proportionately more power on your next purchase.

I'm glad you're not asking for help on any major purchase...

Thanks again, I'll end the thread here. It looks like either saw will do what I need it to do. I'll handle both and see if I can feel much of a difference. Thanks for the input, Greg

Husky is in fact in the prosess of reversing that policy.

The reason I have the brands of saws that I have is because of good dealers. You make a very good point here.
