OIL AND FUEL MIX RATIO
was reading a thread on here this morning about and im a bit confused about it, was a test on the heat of the saw and how well the saw ran
isnt the fuel ;oil mix to lube the engine and stop wear
as an example im running my husky 61 at 32;1
could some one explain all this please
I wouldn't worry about it too much some guys just have way to much free time on there hands...
Chainsaws are a two stroke industrial engine they are not really up there with say an F1 car or top fueler...... As long as you run more oil than 50:1 for longevity and protection from wear between moving parts and fresh ethanol free fuel and a good tune, you will get a long service life out of your saw and she be good as gold mate...Our hardwoods are hard saws work hard and it can get very hot in summer so myself I run more oil than 40:1.... 33:1 is a good mix to get a good service life out of a saw in IMHO, as far as oil goes just run a good brand name 2t oil and Id not waste money on full synthetic race oils designed for motocross bikes in stock saws...... I've got saw's with thousands of hrs on them and they are still running strong years and years later....Just my 2c.

Thanks for that info, much app it

Caution
Oil ratio affects rich / lean

Carburettor use air through the venturi to make a vacuum to suck the fuel up and atomise it.
14.7 to 1 is about the right air fuel ratio for petrol fuels ( methanol is different)

50 to 1 is less viscous than 25 to 1

So the more oil you add to provide lubrication the less fuel actually gets sucked up by the caby and the engine will go lean.

As you add oil you need to richen the high speed

so i really could be hurting the engine running 32,1 rather than using the 40,1 as recommended then

If you change the oil ratio
You can hurt the engine yes
Just need to richen the mixture after you do it
Us your usual method eg the factory rpm or the four stroking out of the cut to make sure it is not too lean

thanks for the input on the fuel, have retuned it but playing it safe and not over revving it on FOT

I run 10:1 diff oil and BP Ultimate. Haven't had a saw seize yet.
I might have to lean out the high jet though cause for some stupid reason I keep fouling plugs...

If you run LSD diff oil at that ratio and your not holding your tongue right, I have seen lots of Husky's seize that way. It doesn't effect the Stihl M-Tronics though cause they self tune to LSD or non-LSD oils and the users are better trained at tongue techinique.
