ooh, ooh, square chain show and tell :D

Here's some old photo's of my first, part finished effort.
Still needed thinning and smoothing after this, and when Neil saw it he informed me I didn't need the dog boning in our timber. Not doing that saves a hell of a lot of work.

I think Neil's just lazy ............................

Thought I'd pop in with an update on the 441.

It's not really that tree in the fire. I just liked the sequence :p

A few quick photos gents. I had my right ACL fixed on the 3rd of May. I was bored sh*tless at home within a few days so drove down the in-law's farm to do some shooting. Got about 15 rabbits out of the ute plus a few foxes under spotlight with the .222 around newly dropped lambs. They were all big and healthy foxes too :) Not real smart though and no shots were over 150m. All sitting looking directly at me so nothing too difficult. Note my very impressive brace - I shouldn't have even been driving but alas. Boredom is no form of rehab and I don't do boredom very well. I was meant to have 3 weeks off work but didn't even last half of that. As much as I love Judge Judy and Dr Phil I just had to get out of the house...

Sorry about this image but he copped one right between the eyes at about 100m - I could only see his head. If it's too disturbing I'll remove it but most of us are shooters so I think it will be alright...

I was afraid what sort of response i'd get to that line after I posted it, that's mild to what I sort of expected

I'll do better in future old son. Sorry. I've really let myself down this time it would seem :(

Yeah I've heard that too Rick. Our timbers don't pull the same type of chips to warrant the dogboning. It is pretty easy to setup on a grinder though to do it. The weight savings would also give you a 0.0000001% faster cut. Other forums will back these gains up too ;)

Matt, what .222 do you have. I started to read an old book that my father owned, called "The Accurate Rifle" it seems that this calibure was really designed for accuracy and was the top match shooting rifle for the time....

I have a CZ527 mate with a Jap made Nikko 4.5-14 x 50mm scope. I bedded and floated it the second I got it but it's a pretty accurate little gun and so economical too. It is the perfect spotlighting rifle. The .222's are well known for accuracy, mainly due to their long neck. My brother has a fully setup .222 on a Remington 700 action with fluted Maddco and Timney trigger. That thing has given a few benchrest rifles a hurry along in it's day. He's pretty anal though and neckturns Lapua cases, hand weighs every load etc etc. I've never quite got into the full target shooting scene but did come 2nd at a 300m egg shoot with my .22/250 that at the time had a badly pitted barrel. I think I got 5 eggs out of 15 shots. The winner was running an F Class 6mm/.284 if I remember correctly. That smartarse got 14 eggs out of 15. It was a very schmick big dollar rifle and my Win 70 .22/250 cost me $350 just prior to this egg shoot (until I rebarrelled it etc etc) :)

Ha Matt i like the muzzle between the toes on the thong trick never tryed that one.:msp_sneaky:

You need to wear more thongs mate :) Funny thing was that I did not intend to go spotlighting at all hence the shorts and thongs. Tracy's cousin was ultra keen to go and shoot some foxes so off we went. She had her husband's brand new Lightforce suction cup spotlight mount on the top of their Rodeo. Worked really well, not. You could hear one of the cups leaking through the top and the whole lot kept popping off over every bump. We ended up cable tying it to the roof rack. Typical Lightforce quality control...
