Handed over a warehouse I have been building in Campbellfield for the tenant to start their fit out. ...well over a cool mill of that Schaefer being installed....designed in Germany and manufactured in Malaysia....had a close look at it a few weeks ago and it looks pretty good.
Over the last 20 odd years I've had 4 apprentices and a number of labourers....it's been a mixed bag of course but I only ever really had 2 problems....one young bloke was smoking too much dope unfortunately and I had to let him go after 18 months as an apprentice and poor reliability from casual labour...I find with young fellas new to the work force, I tend to pay them just below the award but build in an incentive scheme of a few dollars an hour purely based on reliability that gives them a bonus at the end of a project that brings them up above the award. After 6 to 12 months of punctuality they have enough to buy a pretty decent second hand car just from the bonus and it's worked pretty well to get them to work on time. Getting them to take an interest in their work is a slow process sometimes but I've taken on a few troubled kids that have had their hand held by mum, from broken families and substance abuse...Once they trust me and take ownership of tasks and setting of goals I've seen some huge turn arounds that have really made a positive difference to their lives...kids that were introverted and hated the world and thought everyone was an arse hole changed completely to thinking the opposite.....
