Hope Stihl have all the bugs sorted? Monday is the start of its working hard for its keep life ,it's got big shoes to fill as far as reliability goes ..If we don't have any problems with it I'd say it's safe to buy one lol time will tell..

k am i doin it wrong

i change oil in my cars .. My system i drop the oil into pan and as it flowing i dump 1/2 litre fresh oil down the spout and start motor for just a mo 3, 4 /5 seconds at idle only....the idea in my mind is help clear old dirty oil in pump sump and filter,, then i'll watch till the fresh stuff runs to pan and leave it for 30 minutes to drain ( wot i doin now ) then plug it and refill i told me mates they freaked said omg you can wreck the donk....

what say yousse mob?

the reason i'm dropping wifeys Hyundai oil is after the work shop ***** serviced it i checked and gee oil was tad overfull i ignored then but today recheck & still tad overfull and found smear over engine top so suspect getting blow back or leak due to over pressure

here the overfull levels truly i reckon they change the without changing the filter oil added OEM 5.9 litre not the 5.4

lol hell no we wont be going that long were winding down...From what I've read any problems seem to show up early? you get a good one or a dud? a few full time woodcutters have them here and work them hard cutting dead dry Ironbark I only know of one that's played up a bit but that seems to be sorted whatever was wrong with it...
Edit -I don't mean we will work it any more than anyone just we wont baby it, will be sliding around in the back of the ute left in the rain etc what some guys call saw abuse lol

nothing to do with chainsaws, but thought this was kinda cool:

*edit* I've now watched it a few times and am changing my mind. It's not kinda cool, it's phucking epic. Even if you don't like the foos, you gotta appreciate the power of music to bring people together and provide some joy in a world that at times can feel like it is sliding into the abyss.

It took me back to my bedroom when I was growing up, walls lined with anything that might dampen the noise - blankets, pillows, cardboard egg cartons, etc - music cranked up as I left the world behind to belt out fave songs on my drums, for hours at a time sometimes.

i not a big foo fan,, not my generation thing but this is great anthem tune and the vids cool i really like a hang gilder one from Newcastle captures the feel of flight

id say your mates are right, your running an engine with no oil pressure, that means metal to metal contact on the mains, rods & cam bearings, an engine destructing practice. it wouldn't be the first time a service wasn't done properly or at all.
thansk

you may be right tho its only for a mo just on off but the nil oil pressure is factor i not considered, thanks

Do the oil change with the old oil hot.
Side note
Wynn's did a stunt with a oil additive years ago. They drained the oil out of s old commodore and drove it from Darwin to allice Springs. The trick was the additive keep a microscopic amount of oil on every surface. They never stopped the engine.

thanks, yup its hot alright running down my wrist dam hot  yer i'm hoping for the mo i run the donk the oil coating the movin parts saves harm plus as said i drop 1/2 liter fresh but cheap mono stuff in the top end just before i start it...

jobs just bout done now dear wife can jump in start it dead set cold & rev the crap out of it before she gets to end of drive :(

Take the filter off, drain it and refill with new oil or replace with new filter and fill filter with new oil......dump the oil hot as mentioned......don't do what you are doing, running an engine without oil pressure can destroy it very quickly. Use a magnetic sump plug if you can get one. When complete you can pop the lead off the coil and turn over the engine on the starter to bring up the oil pressure (this is recommended for anal retentive people or if the engine is a high performance race engine with a high idle speed)...5 to 10 seconds should do it.....start it and let it idle until oil pressure comes right back up then you're right to go.

filter change each other oil change and your idea would work if the filter was not an upside down job as per my cruiser and upside down and in friggen lady's parts spot in the santa fe..... but i hear ya thanks and the magnetic sump plugs a good idea hmm unlike pete brooky energy Polariser" containing crystals magnet idea thingyme bob.... hmm gee dont think i'll do the crank without spark that's a tad beyond my care factor but it is a worry when you start and watch the oil pressure needle sit for mo before it slowly creeps up

G'day diggers ...
But to be true he has my full respect as an old school Aussie hardwood logger and he has forgotten more than I will ever know! Would be funny to see his reaction to read the Americans argue which is the lightest 60cc saw to run a 32in bar as they do on AS LOL.....
Anyways check him out as he shows who's boss to a little 660! well that is until he pinches it cutting a head off, well he's only human and ain't we all!?....But yeah he is getting old 65+ years and still thinks the 090's are the best saw's ever made and gets cranky at Stihl making them no longer available if you mention anything about them......

Yeah, seems to have the hang of it

Hes not wrong, cant beat the old 090 for dependability in the Aussie bush! Good to see your oldman in a vid again mate, i still remember the video you had a few years ago with him knocking down the old stringy with the 090, just after you rebuilt it for him .

Yeah he likes the old 090's he says best saw ever made they go forever ya know cant kill em! ,and then goes on about that's why Stihl take them off the market they were making no money selling new saw's haha.. Them old guys are tough as nails the weight of a saw don't seem to worry em as long as it goes and has lost of power! haha..
He was telling me he did buy a big new mcculloch chainsaw back when he was a full time cutter heard they had power, he said it didn't last long he could never get the bloody thing started and he had a bit of a temper back then so after pulling it over 50 times or something he cracked it and chopped it up with an ax! haha...
