Hi everybody,

Went to our 4wd club meeting tonight. They are buying a new chainsaw for their land as the bearings failed in the saw they were using. The old saw was a 346xp, but was straight gassed sometime in its past. Now it has gone the way of the dodo.

I have been putting some suggestions forward, mainly along the lines of another 346xp brand new, or if they are going to jump over the fence, an MS261.

If they wanted to step up a bit I would suggest a 562xp and get the autotune.

I believe they are going to buy an MS291 or an MS311. Seems like a poor choice to me. I guess it doesnt matter if they straight gas this one either.

I'm heading down there this weekend, may as well take the MS441 and show them how a real chainsaw runs.

Your thoughts?

Graham

I would go with a 261, because its a simple quality pro saw. It has a good filter too.

Is the 346XP for sale or is it long gone?

Mate I am thinking along the same lines, but unfortunately I think that through some closet wheeling and dealing it it long gone. I was thining of buying it, rebuilding it, and maybe doing some mild porting on it.

I would buy the MS261 in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it isnt my decision. This decision was reached by a committee who think that all Stihls/Huskys are equal. Gotta love committees.

I'll have a flat white made with freshly ground Nicaragua Matagalpa beans, served at 65c....

Is grinding the ticket Wayne? I need to find a decent coffee locally. Lavaza has bean nice but I'm sure there would be better?

Plenty of woolybutt in the area to neil, and blueys are a possibility too, pics of wheel should sort it out Rudy:msp_wink:

cheers

Does the club take the saw out on trips? I would suggest no less than 70cc and recommend 390XP, 660, 395XP etc.

Hi Neil,

No the saw generally stays on the club land, or at least it is supposed to stay on the club land.........

Based upon what I have read here I have purchased myself a 70cc saw to carry with me which should cover most situations. Hence the MS441.

I did write to the el presidente suggesting a few saw models. If it was me I would go with the 562XP for what they are doing. The block of land is largely bush, and there are a few trees on it. Whenever there are storms, a few trees come down, blocking the tracks.

I'm looking forward to the moment when they are pushing their way through with their MS291, then I rock up with the MS441CM :msp_biggrin:

[snip]

Try and get a locally roasted blend mate, and when you extract, do a short extraction but use 1.5 or 2 shots to make up for the short extraction.

Better flavour, less bitterness and less of a kick.

Whats wrong with good old International Roast a Mans Coffee

If there's a choice between instant 'coffee' or tea, I'll take tea every time thanks :)

Coffee snob ? moi ? :monkey:

BTW, if the definition of insanity is repeating an outcome and expecting a different result, why do I keep stopping at Macca's when on a trip and expect to be able to drink a flat white ? :dizzy:

Tipped another one out on Tuesday when on the way back from Sydney.

Good to see you back Rick, good holiday? :msp_biggrin:

:msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin::

I was dragged back kicking and screaming, and I was working my arse off the whole time, I was actually doing a course.

I also realised yesterday it's the longest break I've ever had off real work in my entire working life, and it was only a touch over four weeks.

As long as you had a good time hey :jester:

I buy green beans from Coffe Craft COFFEE CRAFT SHOP
They do sell online but as Rick suggests you should be able to find fresh roasted beans locally.

30ml in 25 seconds works for me but it depends on your tamping technique.

Nothing.. if you enjoy drinking floor sweepings.

I've seen what the private contractors run Bob. I know about a few of them that went to Iraq as they were nearly all ex SAS. A sh*tload of SAS guys ended up in Iraq doing security and protection work as the money was massive - it actually left the regiment in a bit of a hole. Early on they used whatever weapons they could buy which varied and there was a heap of cowboys over there. Most of these guys ended up getting killed as they were taking on jobs with too much risk that the more professional guys wouldn't touch. I think weapon supply later on was OK but early on the contractors just bought whatever they could on the black market - normally AK's. I haven't heard anything about them for years and not too many of them are still over there.

I agree on the humane bit. It's a bloody war for christ's sake! You can blast a guy apart with a rocket or bomb but can't hit them with small arms fire that blows an arm off. Ah if only the enemy abided by the same rules as we have to. One of the SAS guys in Afghanistan got in a bit of strife for laying out an enemy who was planting an IED with a Javelin missile a few km away. He was out of the range of the other weapons they had. Apparently $100,000+ to kill an enemy is too expensive according to the Australian government. I think that it was cheap :D

Miniguns kick arse as do those gunships. Hitting a human body with any more than a few dozen rounds out of those 4,000 a minute is the trick and anybody that emptied a full minute's worth into a human needs some serious attention :)

By the way Bob, respect for Vietnam too mate

My son in law has completed about 12 trips to Sunny downtown Iraq he was 3 Battalion RAR or whatever the army call themselves and is still in as a reservist Sargent and thinking of going to Afganistan before Australia pulls out i'm pretty certain he will be going as a private contractor for the money.

As regards 5.56mm being humane what happens when it deflects and starts to tumble no neat and tidy entry wound there ol mate.

I had a ride in one of those gunships man o man the side recoil when the crank up the four gatting and two vulcan guns and their night vision gear wasn't as good as nowadays
Gives new meaning why run you'll only die tied
