30ml in 25 seconds works for me but it depends on your tamping technique.

That's pretty much where a commercial machine is set too, somewhere in the 22-25 sec. region, and as you say, it depends on your grind and tamp. (I'm now a service tech for one of the commercial machine manufacturers, they set me up just before I went up the coast)

The short extraction was suggested to me by a switched on barista at my favourite café, Bayleaf in Byron Bay. (they roast their own beans too, Marvel St Roasters)

I can't drink much coffee, sometimes having to stick to tea for months on end as it can really mess my system up (full on anxiety attack stuff, and it can happen on decaf too) but Bayleaf's coffee doesn't do that to me.

SWMBO works as a barista now too, and she does the same, or as best she can with a fully automatic Cafina machine for herself and 'special' customers.
Where she works are about to dump the Cafina's and get fully manual Wega machines, so she can play to her hearts content.

Nothing.. if you enjoy drinking floor sweepings.

hahahahahahaha

Before my heart attack i used to go to the old Rock'n'Roll Rockabilly for 4 hours drive home drink a cup of International eat half a dozen fried eggs then pack my butt into bed
thats proberly why i had the heart attack it was them bloody eggs done in supafry.

Cant handle coke it keeps me awake at night.

Good move getting a manual machine the next step is roasting your own beans, then you have total control over your coffee.
Besides green beans only cost $14 KG, 1 KG lasts me a week, caffeine doesn't seem to have any effect on me I regularly have double shots.

I do my own maintenance on my machine just download the IPL and go for it.. the same deal as chainsaws although not as messy :smile2:

Whats wrong with good old International Roast a Mans Coffee

Yup all them tricky coffees are wasted upon me I'm just happy with 43 beans smash it down get back to work even International roast do the trick if yer pushed .
Feeling better may bat on for the weekend as got a little climb job dead gum over home

My son in law has completed about 12 trips to Sunny downtown Iraq he was 3 Battalion RAR or whatever the army call themselves and is still in as a reservist Sargent and thinking of going to Afganistan before Australia pulls out i'm pretty certain he will be going as a private contractor for the money.

I agree Bob but I think you may be mistaking NATO's views for mine? The M193 round being "inhumane" came from NATO (or the UN?) where they decided too much tissue damage was being caused by this round and therefore inhumane.
Wars aren't meant to be humane so stuff knows where they got that idea from :) If I was running the show in Afghanistan etc it would be soft points for everybody but as mentioned we're the only team that has to play by the rules.
I suppose it stems from the old Geneva Convention treaty outlawing "dum dum" bullets even though modern ballistic design has tended to overcome that by making lighter and faster projectiles that are more and more balistically unstable .

Oh and from personal experience old Wayne (gmax) makes one of the best Capuccinos I've had.
I'll drink all types of coffee but I certainly know when I get a good one. When Wayne starts using beans that have passed through the bowels of a small mammal is when I'll stop appreciating his barista skills.
When I was there the other week I was pleased that he didn't swirl a loveheart into the froth. That would have been a concern :D

the old as ages dispute LG vs Power co about trees and wires goes on, sure to often wrong tree wrong spot but just sometimes the Power co should consider options rather than 1st saws.

I agree mate but unfortunately the power companies put trees in the hands of meathead contractors who have no idea on how to prune a tree. When mobs like Linepro do the assessments the assessor has to make a call on whether or not that tree will grow into a designated "box" around the powerline within the next two years. The size of this box depends mainly on the voltage of the lines. The assessor then puts through the information to the contractors who generally have an IQ "just" high enough to dress themselves. They then go nuts on any tree deemed to be a risk with improper cuts quite often destroying and killing any chance the tree has of regrowing properly.
The Linepro assessors here also have to assess tree vigour and species etc and make a call, quite often stuffed up by the trimming crew if the assessor knew what they were talking about to start with. A lot of trees were cut too hard during the drought around our area and died as a result. Under drought conditions they wouldn't have grown into any designated area around the powerlines anyway.

Saw this today. I thought it was pretty funny...

Try and get a locally roasted blend mate, and when you extract, do a short extraction but use 1.5 or 2 shots to make up for the short extraction.

Better flavour, less bitterness and less of a kick.

I buy green beans from Coffe Craft [url=http://www.coffeecraft.com.au/shop/ said:

They do sell online but as Rick suggests you should be able to find fresh roasted beans locally.

Thanks guys, but you lost me! Short extraction, tamping, 1.5/2 shots?

Yes I can get beens from a local shop here that makes an excellent coffee.

So will any grinder do?

I'm with you Rick....real coffee or it's tea!

Thanks fella's

ROFL

As for the coffee gents, the best I had was when I was working in the Absoroka/Beartooth Wilderness are just north of Yellowstone National Park, no need for a fancy contraption either. Take a gallon coffee pot, fill with ice cold stream water, add 5 or so handfulls of coffee grounds (folgers or maxwell house) bring to a boil on a campfire, remove from fire and tap the side with fencing pliers a couple of times to settle out the grounds a bit, pour into cup and enjoy. Goes great with lip full of Copenhagen :hmm3grin2orange: . Can even be used to clean the dishes, cuts grease exceptionally well and environmentally friendly

Cheers
Will

as for continental roast, who the fark decided to call that coffee, would probably make a better cuppa with ground up roo poo

Al, Here's a couple of good guides,

The Home Barista's Guide to Espresso : The Home Barista's Guide to Espresso • Home-Barista.com

Espresso Machine Buying Guide - Don't Skimp on the Grinder : CoffeeGeek - Don't Skimp on the Grinder

The fastest way to learn is to do a 2 hour basic barista course, some coffee hardware shops offer this service, It's worthwhile IMO.
