Matt, or anyone else with the knowledge to answer this without guessing.

What makes the chineese manufacturers decide what model and brand saw they copy and export.
I can understand the smaller copys, as there is an understandable market there.
These 070 copys, why would they bother with something like that when they could copy more popular big saws.

speeking copy's,
i bought a new Norinco 22 mag years ago (cheap Bruno copy) and it shoots ok. It looked like sh#t with the heavy woodwork and 2mm thick varnish. I thined down the stock and removed that horrable varnish to reveal some nice wood work which made it look better.

might have something to do with patents??don't really know, yeah norinco ,nearly bought a 1911 copy years ago, they shot ok i spose but were poorly made ,got talked out of it by a mate that was shooting a STI in 38 super, big dollars but jeez there well finnished ..........and shoot

Yeah I also think it has something to do with patents, even though the chinese don't care about patents much. Discontinued models also has something to do with it - a possible legal loophole maybe? I have been observing the chinese for a while and this is what I noticed... The 365 copy popped up around the time the 365 was discontinued - before the 365XT came out. The same thing happened with the ms260 and ms361. The 038 was one of the first saws they copied - Baileys was even selling them as "build your own saw" kits to get around the legal issues.

I asked some chinese suppliers about the 365 copy and why they aren't building the 372 as they were already making all the parts for it, but they couldn't give me a straight answer...

With the 070 copies, I think the chinese saw a big opportunity in Africa now that the 070/090 stihl's are almost extinct. Even thought african laws aren't the most stringent (China knows this) Stihl still managed to destroy a lot of copies over there.

The chings sell them to most of the third world countries there must be a good demand or else they wouldn't bother and proberly at prices we wouldn't like because we used to being ripped off for big bucks
i reakon good on the chinese at least some-one is making a buck instead of whinging .... in our sociaty do you ever see poor chinese na there too busy working

372 copies are also available as of about 9 months ago.

Wonder when or even if they think it viable to clone Huskies 3120 more than likely not i suppose, i suppose the Chinese aint quite that silly

McBob.

I don't think they'd set up tooling etc to clone a saw that they'd hardly ever sell - most copies are sold within China, South America etc and generally not run by big guys so smaller saws fit the bill. Not only that but every single Chinese copy I've laid my mitts on is noticably heavier than their OEM counterpart. Last thing people need is a heavier saw than an already heavy saw :) Nothing would surprise me.

(Cue the old "You haven't felt heavy young fella till you've run an SP125" comment ;))

So matt,,,, does this mean the chineese 070 / 090 will be even heavier than the original, big mus-cles will be required to start em , lift em and play with em. :lifter:

(Just need to use this area for some weight lifting for a bit)

regarding 3120 copy's,,,,,, no bite,, wrong bait,, hahahahaha de ha

Well I have actually owned a Chinese 070 copy. I gave it away. It would have been criminal to sell a piece of crap like that.

Flippin big section of Cypress flopped onto a busy road outside 2 schools today
Timing was handy tip top just after lunch so quietest time for the road and we had the cops n SES onsite to keep traffic off us till all cleared up within 2 hours .
Sadly this little guy lost his mummy so he took a trip home and is now in care at a critter hostel.

.22's and 12 guages run low pressure so pretty easy to build. When things hit 60,000psi+ I'd start to get a bit more hesitant :)
