Mate, working offshore, I know about planning.
And still we killed two workers in September. The media was full of it with their story, no one would tell them what was happening so they said they would put in what they thought had happened. It was not the guys fault but certain Austrailan personel.
I wont go into it on open forum.
It was not much fun at a work mates funeral, he was 31 with a 9 year old stepdaughter and an 8 month old daughter.
Watching her throw a rose on the coffin while it was being lowered brings it home to the hardest guys.

I have seen companys get away with manslaughter up here saying it was an accident BULLS#IT
Tell me how much time you really save cutting corners when you have an accident or kill someone.
We were shut down for 6 weeks, and I wont say what the day rate is for an offshore oil drilling rig, work boats, helicopters and shore based personel Big dollars
So to my earlier post guys, just think about what you or your crew are up to. It may seem foreign to them but eventually it will pay dividends
Remember the old buildings in Canberra, where the spectators gathered opp Lake Burley Griffin and the young girl was killed by a piece on concrete.
Imagine if it was your child
There are reasons we all gome home at night hoping to be in one piece.
Sorry for my rant, I hope you guys never have to use those first aid kits.
Aint much fun being injured

My Sympathy to your fellow work mates and families, and of course to yourself as you have witnessed such mental angst. No matter what has been done, reported, changed or altered there will always be an element of risk.

My kids are always harping at me because I tend to lean to the strong side of safety in most things. Hell I know i've been there done that and survived, but I now know better. they will understand one day.

Responsibility needs to come back to individuals and what about common sense???? (That will spark some debate). Anyway, the point has been made clear. BE CAREFUL AND CONSIDER ALL OUTCOMES.

Thanks bigfella for your support.
Yeah i have been to a few funerals that should not have happened at work.
I am not trying to be an alarmist but i hope from my comments that it makes some guys here think about what is happening around them and why they are worling there in the first place.

I know my father never thought about it much being a self employed builder.
He had to give it away as his lungs are stuffed from sawdust and his hearing is shot.
One thing in his defense, safety gear was'nt thought of or considered worthwhile , but now we all know better, or should.
Last year gone we were painting my old elevated house. Well my old man was being himself with planks off the handrails etc.
I said DAD, what happens if you fall of there and dont kill yourself but do seroius damage.
How are you and mom going to finish your trip to Perth to see my younger brother,
Surprising when you mention other people that who will be affected, that it brings it home to some.
Anyway enjoy your life, it is the only one you will get.

That is exactly right. You also change as you get older and have more responsibilities. I have got a few mates that are still heavily involved with dirt bikes and good on them but they still think they can cop the same punishment as when they were 18.
A self employed mate of mine recently nearly lost his house after stacking his WR400 across a paddock at about 100kph and not being able to work for a few months. If he'd have gotten more seriously injured he WOULD have lost his house. I bet he rides a bit slower and more cautiously next time.
I have stopped doing a lot of the stupid things I used to do after buying a house and having a daughter - with me being the only money earner in the family we certainly can't afford me to be out of work.

Yep, same thing happened to both my wifes cousins down in the Mount.
Both have fallen off trail bikes with some serious damage .The last one nearly broke his back and he was a self employed plumber.
I dont think in todays economy most people can afford to be out of work, especially if you live up here in the top end.
I guess we were all young, dumb and full fo c#m at one stage in our life too.

I think that bloke is farming with pigs and he has a few feral sheep... oh and some feral goats

I dont know were this but i think i should be there.
Have a good look there is more than one type of ferral.

Thought if I looked hard enough I may be able to see smoke. Looks like the country out around Coonabarabran in NSW where the worst ever bush fire is currently running. Wonder how old the photo is, could be animals fleeing the fire zone. Anyhow, lots of fun could be had with my Winchester 30/30.

Does anyone know how/where I can get a Timberline sharpener from at a more reasonable cost? I dont mind paying a little more than the NA rrp, but $100 markup on something that would cost $20-30 to post is a little hard to swallow.

If it's what you really want then it may pay to befriend one of the US members here and get them to buy it for you in the states and post it out.
They really are a nice looking and well made unit those things but I can't help but think a decent grinder will be more valuable as you can chop and change angles to suit yourself plus grind depth guages.

don't bother i got one and sold it within a month it is slower than freehand and no flexabilaty

for 20* 25* in dry hard wood. the thing will not stay down on the bar unless you screw it down

with a pair of pliers with semi as there ain't enough hook as there is on full chisel and if you use

it on STIHL chain the cutters will not last more than 10 sharpenings on a 24" bar and the last 3

sharpenings will be a pain in the A R S JMHO

cheers D

If you want to do real precision hand filing I would recommend the Stihl FG2. Quality tool as you would expect and flexible with different angles, etc.

He guys, can anyone remember that vid some time back with the chick and the shot gun who was shooting up the creek and balloons. I have been going back but can't find it.
