I'm impressed with the larger V-Twin Kohlers now.

Went out to a farm this arvo to fire up a mower that hadn't been started for about three years.
Drained the tanks and lines (pressurised the tanks to get them siphoning. Bloody waste of bottled nitrogen, but you do what you need to do) flushed them with fresh BP Ultimate, tried to drain the carby and was going to pop the plugs and wind the engine over but wasn't sure about the battery. I've had it on charge for a day and a half and wasn't overly confident it's wind the engine over so I just started to crank it.
BTW, the old fuel was port coloured, yuck.

A little choke,a cough and splutter, a shot of white smoke from the stale fuel in the carby, a few more coughs and an awful, awful smell from the stale fuel and off it went. :blob2:

Sometimes you can be lucky :D

The Canadians had a decent air filter back in 1962 but I suppose they're more expensive to produce than a plastic frame with some flocking glued on.

they (the operators) could proberbly sharpen a chain so there was big chips and no fines, way back then when timber men were timber men.
is that one of your toys

my newish 24 pony Kohlers ok, the last one died too early in $ payback life less than 2000 hours. I am more impressed with your battery 3 years no luv and it turns vtwin over. Designed for snow plows & north winters they gotta be able to handle hibernation

Yes It's a PM canadien 271 gear drive I restored a few years ago, the only hassle was finding 1/2" chain, but JJ was kind enough to send me a loop.

Easiest way to make 1/2" chain mate is to get .404" between two bulldozers and stretch it a bit. No need to get that JJ character involved.

Is that Canadien spring or rubber AV? :D

AV is for pussies...just more crap to break... thanks for the bulldozer tip

sorry fellars I couldn't resist I got this of another site and it cracked me up

For those who haven't heard, Washington State just passed two new laws - gay marriage and legalized marijuana.

The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect biblical sense because Leviticus 20:13 says "If a man lies with another man they should be stoned."

We just hadn't interpreted it correctly before!"

cheers D

question for the 2 stroke experts

i know its not a saw but got a question on my kart, its got a prd fireball water cooled reed valve motor. pulled the jug to check the piston/ring and discovered its had a pretty good failure in the past, looks like the previous owner has blown it damaging a transfer and scoring the bore, but instead or replacing the jug he has just honed it to take the biggest std o/size (54.28mm) piston slapped it together and sold it. thankfully the scoring/transfer damage is mostly below the lowest point the ring reaches otherwise im sure i would have blown it up long before now

so the options,

option 1 is to just waste the best part of 1k replacing everything with std parts kinda boring....

option 2 ive found the piston from a 79 suzuki ts125 which is std in 56mm and has a matching pin size of 14mm. the issues are that its compression height is about 2.7mm higher than the prd piston and its 6ish mm longer overall, also its a twin ring piston.given the jug has a fairly thick steel sleeve assuming i raise the whole jug the 2.7mm and just machine the 6mm off the bottom of the skirt then i should be good to just bore it out for the bigger piston and hopefully gain a few ponies?

heres a pic of the jug showing the scoring

Are these chains stuffed

Thanks , I think I will go with the 5.5mm file as ive got the 5.2mm
Looking back on it , my brother inlaw sharpened the chains when in mundubbera and he,s got a husky 365 , he,s got one of those wheel grinders that bolt to the bench
Any way he used the same settings on his chains and didn't change it to do mine
I tried the file on mine today and the bloody file wouldn't even touch the cutter
Any ideas on how to fix this
I was trying to file it today with the file and guide, I gave up and all 4 chains have been sharpened the same way
Regards Peter
These are brand new chains so can some one advise me on what is my best option, can they be all fixed up with a properly set grinder
Im using the manual file and guide but the file wont even touch the chain
Regards Peter

What do you mean it won't ouch the cutter ?

eg. it won't get between the depth gauge and cutter ?
or when it's in the gullet it's hitting the bottom of the gullet rather than cutting the tooth ?

If the former, just push the file through the gap, it'll go.

If the latter, start filing. ;)
