an ss109 at 3100fps out of a 1:7 RPM is 310,000 the styer used to run 1:7 barrels and the f89 minimi but i have no idea what the run now

Yeah good point. I was running off information in my head when a 1:7 twist was just crazy talk :D
Not sure what the Steyr's and Minimi's run now as there has been a few round developments since the SS109.

ok, so what weight do I want to push o_O :ices_rofl: I want to shoot target, not hunt. Im happy with a longer heavy barrel as such. Looking at .222, .223 or similar depending on recomendations. Looks like I will have to budget between $1500 and $2k for the rifle alone to get something of resonable quality???

If you are shooting target it depends a bit on what ranges. The 52gn Match type projectiles from Speer, Sierra etc are cost effective and accurate but if you want to go 300m or beyond you may want something a bit slipperier through the air which may mean a different twist rate barrel as well.
About the most cost effective and accurate rifle you could buy that would suit is a Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless. Then you can spend more on a decent scope :) There a few good online scope stores in the states that send to Australia. They won't send Leupold's out here but there are plenty of other good scopes on the market. I've had a few scopes sent out and like chainsaws you'll save a sh*tload.

thanks Matt. So what are the resonable limits, range wise of the .222/.223? Is there any performance difference bewteen the cr-mo barrels and the stainless? What about 22-250? I have a couple of 1970s scopes, one a nikko sterling and one a Kahles. I dont think there size/magnification ideal, but may get me started? For my eyes, I need lots of light.

Here are a few that caught my eye, for what reason I do not know???

I will second the beer idea, Rudy.
Been up to me middle bits in edging chains today and checking orange wonders that make lots of noise.
As expected, all good and all ready for action, even the little imported girl is ready to dissect a block.

Fair dink this is just tish

Helicopter pilots won't land at Hospital unless trees are chopped

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/...rees-are-chopped/story-fngnvli9-1226704263314

all trees in picture 28 27 29 30 were removed six months ago tomorrow more are been spanked down some 200m away
1 tree they said needed 100mm off to meet 3% flight VFR grade thats a hand span... I said sox it deck the thing save us all coming back each week
Theres a Norfolk pine tree in LHS distance its 495 m away and it was claimed to be in chopper flight path,,, bollocks
To the west I pointed out that the boiler smoke stacks were higher than the trees that as well are now gone,, A. well yes but we can't chop them down

at what range

deye223, when you say range I take it you mean distance, and not a particular location? TBH, im open to suggestions. Im a newb. I have shot trap a couple of times and thats about it.

i'm off to shoot 300yards weekend this is about best for my 223 1;12 twist 55g pill set up it will go out to 600yard but seen some shots start to tumble about then anyhoo i got to allow for about 9 foot of bullet drop so it feels more like lobbing in the shot rather than aiming & the pill takes almost a full second to get down range @ 600

Got some more junk valuable stuff up for grabs if anyone wants it. Have a brian toss splicing wand, medium size (perfect for 1/2" line) brand new never used $80 delivered anywhere in aus. Also have a logrite cant hook/peavey or whatever you want to call them, been used a couple times but I could never find a spot in the truck for it so it always gets left at home. It's about 5' long and was about $250 from memory, $100 and it's yours. Too heavy to post so pick up only on that one. Also have a 1997 honda blackbird (cbr1100) with factory panniers and 163,000 on the clock going for $2600. I can't figure out how to post pics with the new system so if anyones interested send me a pm with your email
