Not that im in the market atm,but if i was im stuffed if i no what ute i would buy these days.Bring back the old hiluxs i say....slow,rough but realiable as a hammer!

work bought me a dual cab Triton MN diesel
work is down sizing and when I leave I might buy it wholesale
25k on the clock and 20k to buy
this is why I know about the recalls

My town would grind to a halt if it was not for the old 80s hilux they are everywhere and still going strong young guys have them setup for pigging and that extreme 4x4 stuff they all do now......For work in the bush we have always used the land cruisers tuff as nails, but we have not had a V8 one yet dont hear much good about the V8....Here is a pic of my ute its the 4L V6 I got it new in 08 might hit 40k this year and I dont think its even had wood in the back more me town car to do shopping in and load bikes on, They seem to jump them ok lol.......View attachment 320397 View attachment 320398

There was a time here when those and cruisers ruled, but not these days, I had 2 Hilux's myself, my 2.8 duel cab was the best one, I traded it after 3 years for a new series 3.0 diesel which was a nice ute but never went as good as the 2.8, I sold it after 1 year still with original brakes, battery etc for my 2002 rodeo 2.8 turbo diesel and that was a good ute. I still sometimes miss that 2.8 dual cab Toyota.
please ignore the Ferguson tractor on the Bedford truck, its the Hilux I was refereeing to.

Wow, at that money David I would buy it too, when I got mine 2 years ago they were double that, only good thing about my sale, was that 5 year warranty (or 160k) and extended drive train warranty I got, but by the sounds of it I will be needing it, my cousin got one 6 months ago, a auto version, he is happy so far but its heavier on fuel than my one.

Can anyone remember the original 2.2 Hilux, some had 4 sp and later ones had 5 speed, my brother bought one new, it went steady but was reliable,,,, I often wonder is the new great wall 4x4 diesels on par with those old Hilux's.

Been debating on getting a newer vehicle myself also, like the looks of the new Rangers with the extended cab. Had a kick of a few tyres when I was picking up parts for the old Nissan and just ended up with sticker shock checking out the new 4x4's. Got 2 4x's at the moment, the patrol ute is a 99 with 400,000km on it and still goes with no major issues, and the 86 troopy still goes with over 500,000kms on her. hate to see the day I would have to part with these reliable tanks

I'd really like to see all the other so called 4X4s after clocking 500,000
That of course will never happen,
My 95 ute has over 500,000 and still gets the job done

I'm pretty confident that the drivetrains are up to it (mostly) but I'm also quite sure the rest of the ute will fall apart after 500,000km. Electrical gremlins are quite common in the newer utes.
I deal with a few growers that have the later model Hiluxes and they are in the mid-high 300's and haven't missed a beat.
The reason that Halliburton (mining) are going away from the Hiluxes and back to the Cruisers is because of fuel system issues on lower quality diesel.
I've heard of 3 x 200 Series V8 Cruisers that have had their fuel systems crap themselves ($20,000+ to fix under warranty) so not sure if the utes are any different to the sedans as far as their fuel systems go.

Gidday all. Had an epic weekend in the bush on a mates place gave him a hand on geting some basic facility's set up

And got some shooting in as well got this lone rabbit while out haveing a stiky beak for the pigs I missed on the Friday afternoon. I drove right up on the pigs about 20 metres away and they hung around while I got the 223 out of the bag and generally rooted around then they pissed off was a bore and a sow and a hand full of suckers mum got a shot up the clacker for her trouble but still managed to get away in the thick pine and tee tree scrub

FWIW the ex's GU Patrol ute has 420,000km now and still the original clutch !
Has been a bloody reliable bus.

The Defender has 320,000km and still pulls like it did 150,000km ago when the wick was turned right up on the silly little Landy diesel.

Still flogs the Patrol with 700kg extra in the tub and gets 11.8l/100km weekin, week out with big muddies and the aerodynamics of a Colourbond shed :D

shot 500 yard 54 last week so thinkin i give a pennant comp a go i shoot a flippin 44 and git mildly mad and psyched out by all the big good gear landing 6666VVVVV6 right nexxt to me
i'll blame the mirage that was wafting about but really twas my opsey as dropped the ammo box and i mixed up all my fire formed with unfired cases

Hey thats not bad Rick, that was the 2.4 from memory? I ended up going for a GU ute but still want to try a landy some day, those ex army ones popping up all over would be good fun.
