Throttle blipping habit

i hear you should blip a saw to op temp, if u can be bothered, then blip before and after each cut, and just before you kill saw, and before you want to say something important, and after to emphasise,
i hear (by this i mean imagine ) motors that idle lots get funny wear patterns
motor not made to chk chk chk chk
motor made to vrrrrrrrrrrrrrriririimmmm
chain likes to move as well, likes to keep moving more than start moving.

It comes from being used to running saws that do not run right, you have to keep goosing or else they die.

Then my saw doesn't run right. What do I do to fix it?

I love it, every timberfaller who limbs quick does it - it is a sign of speed - keeps the chain speed up for the next limb.
The slow guys will only hit the throttle at a limb - I among many other production cutters pop it.
Besides, when your saws sounds awesome - the responsive rap off the throttle is ear candy.
Nothing better the a hill side full of 8 cutters popin' the throttle - from a distance it sounds like a swarm of bees.

I am guilty myself at times esp climbing/limbing with a top trigger to get her winding before the cut,but it does clear the chain,and get the oil pumping,and to a point it sounds coooool...to a point,lol

When I do it, it is for clearing chips from the cutting system, not mindless blipping.

I believe Thall is right that it helps cooling the saw down also, if you do it at the right time.


Constant (mindless) blipping out if the cut is another story........

I am not for sure here, but on longer bars 28"-36" etc wouldn't it help get bar oil to the end, since a idling saw doesn't put out bar oil. Don't know for sure but seems to work for me, except on the 361 yesterday with the 32" in soft wood.

Also if your saw sounds like crap, I understand not wanting to hear it.
But I love to hear mine and all that raw released sound of power, as someone else said (ear candy). :chainsawguy:

A squeek toy would be a lot cheaper, and can be made to sound like a saw. Anyone who thinks rapping a saw with no load sounds good is a few grunts short of a shyt. :greenchainsaw:

I am beginning to wonder. What annoys me is someone holding throttle
wide freaking open I have witnessed this I guess they thought it was
a diesel model but they never let off. How does a saw run in space

only blip during warm up and just before a cut to make sure things are firing right.

also blip just before shutting down to make sure junk is burnt off and saw is running clean.

The right time would be right after coming out of a long sustained cut. I found this out the easy way at the factory. They had a 036 with a thermometer attached right to the top cover. A few blips would cause the temp to drop down quite fast but not a whole lot. Running on the edge though a few degrees could mean the differance between keep on sawing or ut oh..

A tree thats on the ground where the limbs are thick and numerous I blip my saw alot. Not to cool it but keep that chain moving. Never do I set a completely stopped chain on a small limb. Its rolling when it hits and zoom I'm off to the next one. 38 years and never once burnt a cylinder so other than nosie blipping really doesn't hurt anything and may help abit out of those long sustain cuts. I reckon Space and me can't limb a tree together for I would drive him crazy not only by blipping but by sawing 10 limbs to his one,LOLOL

Why blip? Why not just maintain a constant fast idle instead. (say, about 1000 rpm's above idle) Seems to me this would be much more effective at lowering temps and oiling the bar.

Hey every since space brought this topic up, I have had dreams
about blipping saws thousands of blipping saws like an stihl husky
quartet high low and baritone whole notes half, quarter and all in fiths.
Maybe if space had the dream he could get over his affliction lol.
