What is this rope designed for?

I have heard of a spiderleg, but what exactly is that other than an appendage of an arachnid?

tie the sling to two different ends of a limb and hang it from the middle, kind of use it to balance a piece of a target so neither end swings down and hits.

Good pic, good info. I have learned so much today my head is hurting. I might have to fire up a saw to ease the pain. Thanks for making me smarter and hopefully safer.

the pic I borrowed, as far as sling size and length... as a rule of thumb I generally go with one rope diameter bigger then my bull line. You want it at least as big and strong as your rigging line... But if you get a 3/4" sling you should be able to hang just about anything your going to do off it. For the length you will find that eventually your going to want different sizes for different size trees but thats not always cost effective. So go with a longer sling you can always tuck in or tie off a tail... can not do much with a sling that is too short, other then maybe settle for an insufficient knot.

I should also add that it can make a difference on what size block... if you use a smaller block with a 5/8 size limit get a 5/8 or else you will be mushing your rope. This rule is more important with rope actually running through the block (the actual working rigging line) but I am sure it holds true with sling to some amount also.
