I wish I had been working on a saw on my bench - this weekend the action was out in the driveway under a 20 year old F250 replacing leaf spring hangers. What a drag! I'm so sore from being crunched up underneath running grinders, saws, drills and wrenches. But it's done. Now I need to figure out something I can work on having to do with chainsaws - while standing or sitting in front of my bench.

I hate working on vehicles.

Have my 024 project saw.

Possibly bought the 024 in a box with an 028 in pieces for $30. Just getting to it after having it for over a year. I just putz at it. Took me almost two months to get my Makita bb 6401 running. Still learning and reading a lot.

Picked up a really clean little 51 husky for $20 today...no compression; pulled the muffler and seen the ring was broken.

Little rub mark on the edges of the exhaust port and the piece of the ring was sitting inside the muffler...should be an easy fix!

Was it that clean when you bought because that thing looks sharp as hell! Nice collection!

It was posted on the local classifieds last night as: '51 Husky parts saw, does not run...$20'

There was a picture of the saw sitting in a wood working shop covered with sawdust and cobwebs but I could tell the saw was in nice shape.

I called and said I would pick it up in the morning; young couple just bought an old farm and were getting rid of the 'junk'.

Took it home and a little bit of compressed air and a rub with some WD-40 and it looked like new!

Tore it down and there's hardly any wear other than the broken ring.

This will be my first time into a saw but seems to be pretty simple and I'm not out very much if I F it up...:p

If the ring broke from wear, check the piston skirt for wear. One side may be noticeably thinner. Another thing to check if you plan on using the same piston is to make sure the ring locator pin is in place.

Well, just figure out why the ring broke, caught on an opening, locator pin in the piston screwy or fell out, whatever.

Ya, great score man!

The piston/cylinder don't look worn at all but the ring was worn more on the intake side than the exhaust but was broke on the exhaust side...

It almost looks like the ring hit the top edge of the exhaust port and snapped? As soon as I took the muffler off I could hear the piece inside rattling.

I'll likely put a piston and ring in it for what it's worth...hopefully it works ok.

While doing an oil change I thought I would whip the sump off the duramax patrol and weld up around the temp gauge thread. Sick of the blood stains all over the garage.
I hope you didn't put oil in there...

I am fixing a Husqavarna 61 and a 42 Special for a friend who is an arborist. The 61 got a new piston, all new gaskets and fuel line and cleaned up. Easily the dirtiest saw I ever worked on. It is a strong runner now and after cleaning off the grime it looks to be in great shape.

The 42 Special got the same treatment except the piston was in good shape so I reringed it.

Not exactly my work bench.lol quick tear down of a nearly new gz4000 to check the squish for a gasket delete and muffler mod.next up is my buddys ms270 for a clean up.
