Why are you guys into chainsaws? Is it your hobby? Or are you just asking for help on one you have?

I collect masks and props of things from horror movies. When people ask me why, I say because I always wanted something that looks just like the film. I think they are awesome and realistic.

What do you guys think? :chainsawguy:

Well, for me...... i've always been into anything motorized. Burning wood for heat got me involved with chainsaws..... though there had always been one in my house when i was growing up.

the most interesting part of my job is cutting. hauling wood no fun, cutting tree's is more like sculpting stuff. saws that cut good make sculpting easier and more enjoyable. saws that cut louder are good too :)

I heat my house with wood.

In my area, mature trees and frequent storms yield a free fuel supply.

So I figured I'd spend my money somewhere related.

Like being able to put one the wood and make it work hard with me at the trigger!!!! Like seeing the tree fall. Enjoy the fire later. Great small hobby. Like getting out to get the wood, good exercise, great family thing. And a guy cant have just one!!:hmm3grin2orange:

u get any chainsaws? there is a rumour my boss tried to buy (cheap) the chipper a young guy got stuck in... he (apparently)was disapointed they wouldn't even sell for parts...
weird u want a horror film to be realistic, chainsaws cut wood, only designed for it only really cut people in accidents. If you try attack someone with a chainsaw they'll just chuck a brick at you or something, chainsaws arn't that quick to swing, really, unless you catch them by suprise like when they're asleep
u can use chainsaws to cut dead cattle up, i never seen anyone do it but told it works good, would be strange sight,

I make my living with log homes and chainsaw carve for fun and some extra cash. I love the feel and sound of a good running 2 stroke, makes me get a rush.

I cut firewood, lots of firewood for my Dad and Grandmother. I also do my own salvage logging to supply my woodworking hobby.
Using a chainsaw is just a fact of life for me. I figure you might as well have fun while you are at it. Thus the chainsaw addiction, you have to have the right tools for the job. Big tree=big saw, small tree=small saw.
Of course you must have a backup saw in every size. Some days you want a fast saw, other days you want a torque saw.......theres just no end to the saw addiction.

I come from a logging family Granddad had his own logging outfit. That got me started in interest once Dad let me try his mcculloch super 33 I was hooked. Its a hobby and I have used them to supplement my income with tree removals a little logging and firewood sales probably around 25,000 dollars over a 7year period. I just love that type of work old school macho stuff. Taking down a 36" dbh cedar next week for a friend quick and easy 300 dollars. A little work getting it down in chunks in a backyard.:chainsaw:

Beyond their obvious usefulnesss in clearing land and produciong firewood, I kind of regard chainsaws as being among mankind's best  and worst :angry2: inventions. It's up to the skill and experience of the user to determine which it will be on any given day.

Pretty scary huh?

Why not? Does not everyone love them? :rockn:

I'm mostly in it for practical reasons only. For cleaning up the occasional dead tree at work, and for my upcoming build of my (non-kithome) log cabin, which will require significant "cutting to fit" and milling operations. If I get as so lucky to acquire land with usable trees, I'll be felling my own as well.

Oh yea, and chainsaws are just cool too!

Always had one around for clean up and firewood when I was a kid. I just loved the power and sound of a chainsaw.

Now that I burn wood to heat my house it's also a necessity. Besides, once you start, it's damn hard to stop; especially if you hang out here for a while :dizzy:

Well, when I bought my woodlot I was trying to remove a ton of bush honeysuckle and a machete was not going to be the way. I was (still am) removing dead trees and culling deformed ones. It is a bit like working on a car where you have a platitude of different fasteners in different sizes. You need the right tools. AS is where many come with questions and problems and end up staying for the on line sense of chainsaw brotherhood. We have members from all over the world. Could you imagine the noise if every one on AS lived in the same area? There is something to be said about being outdoors working. For me it gives me a good work out and helps me clear my mind. There is the danger element which keeps you on guard. It gives me a sense of satisfaction. It has given me a new appreciation of our pioneer fore fathers who had to clear the land with hand tools before they could plant their crops. I hope this makes sense to someone.
