okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Time to shut this thing down I guess and I make it simple and plain from my own point of view. I have never and never will fault any man that wants to work. Some sit home on Sundays and lay back after working all week and watch Nascar or whatever and thats fine. Me, I'd rather be out running saws for alittle pocket change or sometimes for free. Its a hobby that pays sometimes and sometimes its for fun. I never once thought I was hurting anyone and I still don't. That said if you come through Leesburg Va on a Sunday morning and you hear a saw running its probly me. When I'm not able to work anymore I'll hang it up but till then let me run my saws fellers, its my back, my muscles. I don't question anyone who likes working and on the flip side I don't cut any slack to anyone that says I shouldn't. I decide what I do with my time and in turn I don't tell others what to do with theirs.

This thread sorta exposed alot of views and I understand them all. However I'm gonna keep on working and thats that, no view is going to stop me.

Ode to Tom

When I die and they lay me down
please put my 361 across my chest
before they put me in the ground
for she was rugged
for she was mean
and nobody ever worked on one
not even me

Thall my problem is not with your side work, tax evasion or lack of insurance, but with your claim that you do in 1.5 hours for $300 what you claim a tree service wants $2,300 to do.

Now that is just plain BS any way your stomp it! Our industry averages about $60 per man hour to the customer.....a lot like your shop time I'd imagine.

Dan, it's an argument that nobody is going to win. For every licensed and insured professional out there it has always been that in almost all industries there is someone who will do the same job with less credentials and there always will be. My 02.

Tree I hate to burst your bubble but you are 100% incorrect. You forget where I'm located. I'm in Loudoun County Va, 30 miles from Washington DC. This county is not only the fastest growing county in the nation its also one of the very richest. The tree companies around charge whatever they feel like and none of their quotes are close on the same job. I don't care if they charge $23,000 a tree, makes no nevermind to me. They do charge super high prices around here because the folks around here have the bucks and they know it. Why do you think alot these people come looking for me, I don't go out looking. The 2300.00 job I told you about is pure fact. I noticed you didn't comment on the rest of the quotes that man got. It went from $2300.00 down to $600.00. That should prove what I'm telling you about this area. Why we're those quotes so far apart, because some thought they could get it and many times they do. I don't care what the tree outfits charge because I don't need them. The people they charge are the ones they have to deal with, not me. I'm just a around, thats all. I don't bother the tree guys and in fact I've worked with some before. Don't think they won't take cash because they do, I should know when they have paid me to help.

Long story short Tree what I do is mostly a hobby, some pocket change and thats it. The tree guys can make 100 million a year for all I care, more power to them. I see no harm in me doing what the homeowner won't let the tree guys do. They never lost a job because of me, the homeowners made that choice, not me.

Mow read my post again.

I've been doing tree work for over 20 years and I can tell you that what Thall did in 1.5 hours my 5 man crew could do in less than a half hour. We don't charge $2,300 for a half hours time working either!

Hell, felling and bucking a tree and leaving the whole mess in the yard is a piece of cake for a tree the size of the one in Thall's photo.

If Thall is charging $200 per hour for his services he has a good gig! But the people he worked for got ripped a big one.

Tree once again your not up to snuff. I've said many times I only charge about 100.00 a tree. The man OFFERED me 300.00 to do that and he knew the score, on the ground, sawed up and thats all. He agreed so how did I screw him. He got exactly what I told him he was going to get. If you look closely at the picture you will see his house. That house in Loudoun County goes for about $600-700,000 believe it or not. If you think the man is worried over 300.00 I got news for you, to him its nothing. Small condo's go for 400 grand around here Tree so if you think 300.00 is big dough to these people your wrong, its nothing to them. Really aint much to me either as a matter of fact, pocket change...

Get over it !!!

This was no doubt a wealthy individual who wanted Quality tree service.

Without paying top dollar.

He requested THALL.
Good service.
Low overhead.
Good reputation.

Don' tell me that you guys don't have sideline jobs.

If you don't.

WHY NOT ???

Hmmmm $$$$ ????

If you don't need the money ? fine.

But if someone asks you to, why say no ?

Well I was but Treeco seemed to want some answers on my hobby up here in Va. I hope we got it cleared up now. If not oh well. I'll be in Winchester Va Sunday morning doing some more tree work. He's welcome to come help but I'm gonna pay him what he pays his men, 10.00 a hour. Lets see since I'm lighting fast with a saw Tree is gonna make maybe 70.00 at most, I'm gonna make 1500.00 just like he does.
