THALL .....Bubba has your back................

.

That the hoe ya was talking bout, oh, ok. I admit it, my mind strayed abit, hehe. I did alittle side job out in the shed tonite for one of my saw buddies. I got paid in unmarked bills and I buried them in a quart jar in the yard. When the comotion dies down I'll dig em back up and maybe buy that shade tree mechanic license I'm lacking,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

it's the double standard where one side is upset because part of "their" pie is being "taken", but will gladly reach out and do the same to another. Side-jobs abound in all occupations... and price is what drives them.

Very well said Andy!!! And the double standard that some guys are posting about is pretty amusing. Some of you guys are digging yourselves in deeper and deeper with every post.

With the exception of our old friend Sap, I usually try to find some common ground with everyone. But some of you have tried to put the very concept of "side jobs" under a microscope to declare them unethical on the hallowed grounds of: not being a registered business, not having insurance, not collecting sales tax, not declaring the income. As if all of you guys are that up and up! As if none of you guys have ever had someone do a side job for YOU, working on a truck or somethng around the home. What a joke! It's just a silly position to take in the real world. Andy said it best: "Side-jobs abound in all occupations" For a lot of guys, side jobs are necessary to help pay the bills. What do you want them to do, work nights at Wal-mart to meet your high-minded ethical standards?

Got another thought: Let's just suppose that Thall was a friend of the guy who's tree he took down. Maybe they played softball of golf together, and they are good buddies. And Thall just figures that he will bring a couple saws over to his buddies house and help him drop the tree for FREE. Is it OK to help a friend, or is there something wrong with that too? The arborist still didn't get the job, so is the ethical question about losing the job, or is it about the money?

I'm glad I was born in the USA,
Even with our laws and taxes to pay,

Free to go outside and breath the air,
Free to roam around and go anywhere,

Free to own a gun and speak your mind,
Free to read the paper or go online,

Free to do a job that doesn't fit,
Free to get fired and free to quit,

Free to join a firm and enter the rat race,
Free to do your thing and open your own place,

Free to stay away or free to go home,
Free to rent it, lease it, or even to own,

Free to choose a wife and have a family,
Free to be sad or to live happily,

Free to go shopping at the big mall,
Free to drink beer and play basketball,

Free to drive a car or an SUV,
Free to take a boat and live at sea,

Free to support Bush or maybe a Clinton,
Free to switch sides if you're ever bitten,

Free to drown your sorrows with the ole booze,
Free to leave this country if you choose,

But if you disagree, stay here I plea,
'Cause in our freedom, we cherish diversity.

Wow, man you should be getting paid to write like that. Oppppps I forgot, there are rules. Get a license Joat and make some money with them fine typing hands of yours. Keepem coming, I love your poems...

Good post there. I think Big and me came to a understanding over this side job thing. Space, well I don't know whats up his crawl about it but I won't lose any sleep over it.

For the record I have indeed done many many jobs for free, not a penny involved. Tree jobs, saw jobs, worked on cars and trucks, done painting, drywall, and a host of other odd's and end jobs for people I like totally for free. I've given away many chainsaws I could have easily sold and I've done many repairs for nothing. Ole Hoss can vouch for how I treat my friends. That said I'm no fool. If people come to me and ask me to do a job for them and I can do it I will. Work is one thing I've never been shy of and all work is worth something. That fellow Sunday didn't buy the saws I used, he didn't buy the truck that hauled me and the tools to the job so yes, he paid what he offered me and I took it. Anyone who says they wouldn't is either a lyer or a damn fool. Those that think 50-100 trees a year is a business has gotta be out of their mind. If it was my business I would have starved to death a long time ago. I say anyone that can make a buck go do it, simple as that. If ya wanna sit on ya azz and harp about others working so be it but don't think I'm cutting ya any slack, I'm not and thats that.

Good post Spike, as always you hit the nail on the head..

Dayummmmmmmmm

Give everyone a grand apiece and share that loot.

From now on you call before you do anymore jobs.
Oh I'll call and get permission from those orney snobs.

No more tips from Grandma to cut her grass.
I'm not mowing it anymore, she can kiss my azz.

Pay the taxes on that 1099 she gave you.
I will send in the 1.35 and I got stuck in my shoe.

Never let this happen again and be wise.

Now THE CHAMP is best at one thing,
That's dancin' round in the ring,

Now he's tryin' to write a rhyme,
In these parts it would be a crime,

So keep sawin' to fatten your purse,
'Cause it's better than your written verse,

But I'll tell you this before I go to bed,
I think THE CHAMP took one in the head.

Watch your back :help:

Don't worry Mow, Stang and me both know the score. We do it for less but the payment must be green, that sweet green, hehehe

Gonna get 6000 posts and then I'm gonna quit teasing and carrying on.
