I am hoping that by now the quarter hasdropped.
You're pretty swift there, stihl boy. :bang:stihlatit said:I am hoping that by now the quarter hasdropped.
Try running your engine at 300 celcius.:bang: Ridiculous is as ridiculous does. Anything carried to extremes is just that...ridiculous!stihlatit said:I have been in the auto industry for 34 years. If colder is better see if you can start your engine at 273 degrees Kelvin.

Witin certain parameters you are correct. But we are talking reasonable temperature differences here, not extreme differences. No oil is going to cool any engine to anywhere near ambient temperatures in a temperate climate such as the USA. Our friends in Canada may have extreme cold that calls for other measures to ensure proper engine temperatures get reached. In particular diesel motors need help to maintain proper temperature levels are reached to maintain complete ignition.spacemule said:Engines are engineered to be run at specific temperatures. In fact, running below the optimum temperature can result in less-efficient operation with higher wear.

PS: I HAVE OWNED A FEW GERMAN DIESELS IN THE PAST......AND I RAN SYNTHETIC OIL IN THEM AS WELL.....SHHHH DON"T TELL THE OLD PHARTS

I am no 2 stroke expert, that I freely admit, but common sense leads me to believe any engine that runs cooler with better lubrication will run longer and with more power than its hotter running counterpart.Heat does equal friction..or better yet friction causes heat.Friction is the enemy of any engine, it not only robs power but wears on all surfaces.
Excessive fuel consumption, ring wash and oil dilution for startersTwo cookies if YOU can tell me what happens to an auto engine when it runs too cool.

What post are you refering to?if you run a car engine below temperature but in earlier posts I read that you use synthetics to lower the running temperature of your saws. That seems like a ambiguous statement. You said further to that fact that you even monitor this with heat gauges. Seems to conflict can you please inform a novice like me what you mean

Once again I am sceptical of any claim of a engine runing cooler on synthetics DUE TO DECREASED FRICTION. This pertains to this discussion of FOUR CYCLE OILS.I have never noticed any reduction in temps when using Mobil 1 on any of the trucks/cars and bikes I have used it in.

Piston, ring, bearing and liner wear.Good, good, but I was reaching for the long term effects directly related to fuel. I haven't seen the oil dilution, but it def seems in line.
