When they came out with the 400c i was like - "YEAH BABY"

We purchased one and i was not impressed at all.

As i said in my previous posts - my cs-590 with muff mod beat out the 400c - barely by a second or less

BUT - the 400c was new and only a few tanks thru it

imho - 67cc Stihl should out pace a 59cc echo and it should not be close
Like I said how much to get rid of the slow saw?

Like others have said, there is something wrong with that saw. Once broken in, they'll outcut previous gen 70cc saws.

Once you figure it out, I wouldn't worry about the reliability...sometimes stuff just happens. My 400 by far gets the most run time out of all my rear handled saws and has been nothing but reliable.

i have a Brand New MS361 that i want to take out of the box but just can't do it

Stihl now makes a pure-carb 362 and a pure-carb 462

Will they make a pure-carb 400?

Because once i get this 400c running i'm selling it and and buying the carb 362 to replace it

FYI - the 400c was given to my son so i told him it is going to be sold because he needs something more reliable
I have zero interest in a Stihl saw without Mtronic. It just a solenoid on a carb for god sakes.

i can guarantee that no 400c will out-cut a 044

i had too many in my hands and all saws are compared to that 044/MS440 = light/fast/torque

but thems fightn words in the realm of chainsaws - so please do not take offense

I wouldn't be so sure.
I'm pretty sure my 400C will in fact smoke the MS440 I had years ago. Their HP ratings are identical, but the 400c doesn't feel doggy like the 440 did. Back when the 044/440 was still being made they were kinda turds in the 70cc class. When I started logging years ago it was with a MS440. After running my bosses 372xp that 440 went down the road and I never regretted it.

i'm reporting this as excessive outbursts - lol

i had a 372xp - definite cut great with torque but heavy compared to the 044

i have a Makita 6401 that i will test against this 400c when i get r up

I'm not brand loyal in any way. Stihl saws for years were dogs performance wise and they were antiquated as far as filtration and AV.
With that said the 400C, 462 and 500I are all studs and and I would easily take them over their Husky counterparts.
The only Husky that intrigues me is the 592 and to me I would have to run both a 661 and 592 for awhile before I picked the Husky.
I would also take the 550XP over the 261.

i have a Brand New OEM 044 Slant Fin Cylinder and Piston 10mm wrist pin for $300

This is STIHL OEM P&C

Makita 6401 vs 400c
28" bar
Makita wins hands down
And 20 in bar? Why would you run a 28 on that saw? And where are you getting this stuff? I dont put a lot of faith in You Tube Videos from just anyone. Dyno them.

100% with you on the 462 as i cut with one

i was cutting wood with my muff mod 590 and a guy came along with the 500i = it wasn't much faster

matter of fact i was gonna challenge him but i had to go
He had a 25" Bar on it vs my 20" but the 500 i is 80cc vs echo 59cc

My son keeps telling me to buy the 592xp
Long ago i had a 394xp - torque but heavy

Only one thing prevents me from the 592xp = EWS
