Power (hp) to Weight (lb) ratio:
Stihl 500i - 6.7hp / 13.9lbs = .48
Stihl 462 - 6.0hp / 13.2lbs = .45
Below is all IMHO

that's on paper with the hp = i go by actual in wood cutting AND weight in my hands

so on paper the 500i edges out the 462 but in my hands the P2W goes with the 462

this is measurable on a 'Bell Curve' as once you reach the Peak you start dropping off with added weight(fatigue)

AGAIN - each person is a individual with individual perspectives and decision making = IMHO

never said it was more difficult to fix as i agree with what you said = 2 stroke

the issue is mtronics removes the FREE adjustable carb

also no additional equipment needed = i do not need to plug-in my 460 for diagnostics
No, mtronics takes the idiot that doesn't know how to tune out of the saw. It's a carb. Regular old carb with a fuel solenoid on its side. Everyone gets hung up on the solenoid and 3 extra wires and crys fowl. This is no different then everyone crying in the 80's when vehicles went to fuel Injection or the 70's when points were finally phased out. (Well no one cried about that, that had a brain.)
All the symptoms you've said you've had can be had in a carbed saw as well. Faulty coil, pinched fuel line etc. It's basic stuff. No can bus, 64 bit processors, multi ecu, 80 sensors, 2 inch thick harnesses. Just easy simple stuff to work on. You got a lemon and I really do sympathize with you, but the fact remains there was plenty of simple troubleshooting steeps thay you couldn't/ wouldn't do. If Wolfe doesn't buy that 400 from you I'll gladly take it off your hands.

If you've never ran a 500, then you can't comment on power to weight ratio. Of both saws.

i was right next to someone cutting = REAL Time

My Echo 590 was right next to it and very close

i have cut with the 462 and LOVE it - the added weight without added power of the 500i canceled it for me

AGAIN - that is my personal BIAS from my body telling me

If on the table were presented a MS500i and a SOLO 681 = 95% would grab the MS500i

those of us who are not persuaded by Stihl loyalty and BLING would grab the 681
