Customize your own saw

What if you could put together your own saw just like a race car mechanic assembles his or his drivers race car. What parts would you use to piece your saw together with and why? Be it a timber cutting, tree climbing, hot saw or just an old firewooding backyard special what would the perfect saw be for you ??........Wade

Hey Wade, I'll bite.... I've been kickin this around alot lately anyway.... I log hardwood timber in rolling to hilly terrain, so I would like 066 power and reliability, Jonsevarna antivibe and air filtration, side chain tension for sure, and weight around 12 lbs. Is that too much to ask?

Oh yeah, And... a dealer that actually stocks parts and saws bigger than 45 cc, and knows that when I'm down I need parts NOW. Tired of hearin "I cant afford to tie up my money tryin to guess what parts you'll need :cry:

Check out the 385KD puking out sawdust. The most significant gains are to be had in the filing.

square grinding

Hello Little leroy,
Hey, thats a neat photo john, can just see you in the background. you must have that razur sharp mastered with the 385KD throwing those sized chips. Of course I think you would have a few more chips if you had used the Stihl 066Kd instead of that puny anemic husky 385KD

Hi Ken, the 385KD is just fine for any tree you can throw at it. Maybe I will change to a 7 pin sprocket to see if it makes a difference. Although the 066 is the better saw, I find the 385 faster to handle, plus it's a bit lighter. Thanks for the K2, I mix at 32:1. The square grinding is great, I have felled and bucked 5 thousand ft.(20 trees) with the same chain, ground 3 times gently from new, wether it needed it or not, and never touched the rackers yet. I sent out the 394, 2094, 2100 and 046, so you should have those soon. Glad to hear that Linda has the box ready for the piped 346.
