i have an old org ez saw. what bars interchange with this old saw? my bar is pretty bad. thanks in adv.

By original do you mean one of the old old EZ saws? If you do, probably lots of Homelite bars with the big mount will fit it. I had a roller nose bar on my Homelite Zip, along with a 3/8 chain. I think someone changed the sprocket before I got it. I don't think the bar from the newer EZ saws will fit the old ones, but I've been wrong before...

sprocket

I have a question about putting a 3/8 chain on my Homelite Buz, I have the chain and bar but wondering what sprocket will fit the shaft plus fitting the clutch also. I don't have a clue about what size the shaft or clutch is but I figured Homelite probably made a newer one that would retro-fit to the old saw. I have a Homelite Zip that was changed over to 3/8 but don't know what parts were used or if they'd fit the Buz or not.

The other day our local stump grinding guy came to our house to grind out seven stumps from the tree loss from the storm we had a couple of weeks ago and prior to him coming over I was a at a tree job that he was at and he was griping thestarter cord broke on his Husqvarna 281XP.

He has several older saws that he know I want and he showed them to me but seemd a little stand offish on letting me get soem from he. So I pressed no more on that issue.I mentioned I could fix his starter cord and he left the saw with me to fix when he ground the stumps out. Guy is 76 years old and still grinding stumps with the grinder he bought 30 years ago:rock:

So I fixed the recoil rope and tried to start the saw and found both H and L screws backed out completely and were only held in the sleeve. I took the saw over to him and explained it needs carb work as after putting the H/L screws back in place I could get it to idle but nothing else. He said he would take care of the rest and gave me these saws.

THe super EZ feels very good on compression but has no clutch. THe XL-113 has no compression but I have one with good compression that needs parts so hopefully I can make a runner out of the 113. Not a bad haul for 10 minutes of starter repair and a $1 worth of rope.View attachment 190400View attachment 190401

Another nice score Shane. You still need to convince your wife that it's a gift and not a curse. I have a Super E-Z Auto powerhead that looks exactly like that. Roached P/C though. I have to warn you...................since these saws have a starter pully that's not much bigger than a bottle cap, the compression can 'feel' great when the P/C is in fact roached. That's how mine is. Pulling the rope, everything feels A-OK....

Whoever was in charge of coming up with 'new' model name/number designations at Homelite wasn't earning his money. The "E-Z/EZ" and "XL" confusion is why. Saws from the teeny top handle plastic saws through the 82cc saws had "XL" at the front of their model # (if the saw even had a number..........think "XL" and "Super XL"). Three different bar mount patterns: (XL2/Super2 top handles................XL76-130 saws..............XL12 thru XL955VI).

The EZ (now called "Original EZ" by collectors) and EZ6 (same saw, minor changes) are large frame 5.01ci/82cc Homelites that are basically the 'father' of the Zip. All Magnesium. tube-type air filter. Tillotson HL carb.........and large mount Homelite bar pattern (same as C-Series, XP-series, Zip, Wiz, 600D, etc). They DO NOT take the XL-Mount D096/D196 bars, even though the slot size is the same (3/8"). The XL-Mount bar tail pattern and oiler hole location is wrong for these saws.

The E-Z, Super E-Z (notice the Hyphen), E-Z 250, XL-1 (there's that damn XL designation again) Homelites are small, compact 34-41cc saws (depending on model) which share absolutely nothing in common with the "Original EZ" (no hyphen) other than two letters. They have their own bar mount pattern, which was later used on the XL76-130 Homelites as well as many Euro saws. It's basically the same mount as the "small mount" husky bars that go on Husky 55's, 262's, and the like.

That Buz takes the same drums (either spur or rim drive) as the C-Series and most XP-Series Homelites (as well as the Zip, 600D, 700D, etc). The old Oregon # for the rim-drive drum is 10616. Do you have a rim-drive drum on the saw now? If so, then a 'standard' large spline rim will work. Your Buz and Zip use the same clutches. The Buz was a lower cost version of the zip, made to compete with the McCulloch Mac15 and the various lower price point saws built by Mono (for Wards and others) and other manufacturers of the time. The Homelite 500 was another lower cost saw with sheet metal tanks and other parts instead of castings (like your Buz, but the tanks are shaped differently IIRC).

This 600D is one of my favorite Homelites. It was the XL925 of it's day. It cuts well with 3/8" chain.

Jacob wasn't kidding about the 'white death'. View attachment 190382

Salvage will commence when the garage gets below 90. Yikes it's hot around here.

Also from Little Possum I recieved this: View attachment 190383View attachment 190384

Crankcase/fuel tank from this one will get the ball rolling again.

Thanks fellas.
Carl.

I told ya! LOL I could poke my finger through to the tank there  She'll make some good parts for what you need though
Oh yea and Guess what I just got another XL-101 today lol for 10 bucks. Seems not to be getting any spark, will the coils on this and the XL12 fit up with each other? :cool2:

I really dig that 600D Randy. Motivates me to get the gaskets and such needed to put my "saw of many colors" EZ/EZ6 back together. It's an Original EZ with a smoked P/C. Picked up an EZ6 engine/tank/rear handle assembly from an ebay seller a while ago. P/C look great. I'll put the EZ6 together with the rest of the parts from the EZ. I've got the same full-wrap handlebar with the green rubber grip. My saw will be wearing a blue flywheel cover (from a Zip), as the original red cover was broken. Jacob's sending me a four-petal pyramid reed setup from a junked 600D. That will wake the EZ/EZ6 up methinks!

My saw does not have the rim type sprocket. I'm assuming the nut on the clutch is left hand thread like all the others, haven't checked it out yet. So I can just ask for a C-5 clutch and it'll fit and be a 3/8 pitch?
I guess I really don't understand my problem, I've had different size chains on this and the 3/8 seems to work better than the original size, even with that sprocket. When I tighten the bar nuts down using original size chain I can't get the chain to slide on the bar, even allowing some slack. It seems to fit the sprocket ok but won't turn when I tighten it down. I'm not sure where the hang-up is.

thanks for the info on the bars and drum guy's. is the color the same as the MF red color on the original ez and ez-6? my dad had one back in the day around 57. i cut wood with it as a teenager (why i bought it) $60 shipped. haven't messed with it yet, as i still am messing with my mac300. Aaron, will get your cyl in the mail today. sorry it's taken me so long.

One thing about the old Homelites like ours, even though you don't see too many around any more, they're still not too expensive.

No hurry Kim. Whenever you get it out. Hope your 300 works out for you. Get some pics of that EZ up. I'll shoot some of my EZ6 when I get going on it.

The standard chain (and spur sprocket) on a C5 was .404. 3/8" spur sprockets for these saws would be quite uncommon. 7/16" spurs pop up too. .404 spur sprockets (used and NOS) are easy to find. I recomend you get a rim-drive drum for the saw. Then you can run whichever pitch you choose. All chains except that 3/8" bind on the bar? Maybe you have a .058G or .050G bar on the saw, and the other chains you're trying to run on it are .063G (or .058G if the bar is .050G). Nothing wrong with running 3/8" .050G chain on that saw (if that's what fits and works). Look at Randy's 600D. I run .404/.063G chain on all of my large frame Homelites (except the 1/2" pitch gear drive 1130G), but that's just because all of my large frame Homelite bars are .063G.

I tried measuring the larger chain, measuring between the 3 pins and dividing by 2. It measured almost .9 between the pins so it would be about 7/16. So I probably have a .404 sprocket and a 7/16" chain. I guess that was why it didn't mesh. That rim drive sprocket doesn't sound too bad at all. I think the nut in the middle of the clutch is right hand thread..first one I've seen.

You sir are correct:msp_scared:pulled the muffler and it has some scoring:msp_scared:

I got burned on a purchase so I am in my mind trying to redeem myself by what I have left to work with.

The 944 vi has a scored piston and no spark:angry:

The 330 has spark and super clean piston but white death has pitted the fuel tank..pin hole in it........neighbor took it to lightly bead blast it clean and I will JB weld it unless you guys have another option that is better.

EZ auto has a very lightly scored piston:angry:

I bought them site unseen and new I was taking a risk and finally got burned a little.

The bars pictured though were on the saws and range in lenght overall from 27" to 18" and the chain is carlton non-safety and like new. They have very few sharpenings on them.

Did/does Oregon make these bars.......wonder if any good. The bars themselves have very little wear at all. The two smaller bars have almost no wear that I can see.

Also how do I make downloaded pictures show up?

View attachment 190445View attachment 190446

Brain fart the 330 has a plastic tank so the pitting on the bottom of the case should have no effect on fuel staying in the saw. I put fuel in it and it is not leaking so maybe it will run.

Sometimes they go for that much, sometimes not, just depending on the condition and how bad people are wanting one of them. You might check out ebay and see what they're going for. I think they may bring a little more closer to Fall.

Ya, thanks, was checking the ebay, I am close, its in very good shape.
Had a guy coming over to buy the homelite 45cc XL today, but he walked away with the McCulloch eager beaver..:D..
lol
