Anyone have opinions for a couple saw values? I have a very clean VI-123 that needs some minor parts (screws, lines, diaphragms, oiler plunger,) and a filthy XL-102 that needs cleaning and lines/diaphragms at a minimum. Going to sell them when I get around to it.

Also, looking for a full-wrap handlebar for an SXL-925. The kind with the rubber grip. Mine had a full-wrap that he previous owner cut down to a half-wrap, but it's a little shaky.

Homelite 707D

Picked this one up a couple of months ago but haven't had time to work on it yet. It's locked up but I believe that it is just stuck rings as the piston looks fairly good looking through the exhaust port. A good bit of paint loss but everything looks to be solid. I haven't found any cracks anywhere. There is some corrosion on the outside of the cylinder and on the muffler components but nothing that some glass bead can't take care of. Best thing about it is that it is 100% complete. All the muffler/exhaust deflector parts are there and still has the "ashtray".

After acquiring my first Homelite of this era (EZ6) I have been keeping my eyes out for more. I love running that saw. I bet that the 900 series are a blast to run!

Hopefully it is just the rings that are stuck and the cylinder looks good. I can see a few minor scratches on the exposed piston in the exhaust port but I went ahead an picked up a NOS piston just in case. A-57070, at least I think that is the right one. I only have an IPL for a 770G but I assume that the 770D shares the same internals as the gear drive version.

Also, if anyone has a 770D IPL I would appreciate a copy.

I've gotten two XL-101's off evilbay recently that were less than 40 bux dilivered.

I also have some extra parts for same if you need something.

Pee on the handlebar, I'm looking for an SXL-925 in its entireity. L.O.L.

Well my latest ebay 101 :rolleyes:has a loose rod bearing (actually clanks when you crank it.) and my new notched rings only generated 140 psi because of a largish score/scratch in the cylinder wall. Have to pull him back apart and replace the crank/rod assembly and find another mint cylinder.

On the plus side, I do have most of the parts cleaned and painted.

Leads on an excellent or NOS cylinder are welcome.

Sent you a couple links Carl!

Rod/crankpin clearence.

Crankpin is .5565", rod big end is .6840" and rollers are .0620" which works out to .0035" clearence. Everything looks shiny and smooth, no discoloration.

Seems a bit much. I'm more comfortable with water pumper clearence and babit overlay inserts at .0005"-.0015".

Clank when pulling it over is the starter pawl. Should have know that.

Thanks for the links Aaron.

Any chance of over boring the cylinder? Oversized pistons and rings show up from time to time. I have a 101B that is .050 over and it has awesome compression and runs mint. That puts is somewhere around 130 cc. Only drawback is that it is very hard to pull start.

What're these things supposed to be? My XL-102 pulls 125 cold, and the less-used VI goes 150.

The 140 reading was with assembly oil on the rings. My first XL-101 pulled 165 with the assembly oil and 150 after running. I want upwards of 150 before I call it good. I'm also using notched end gap rings this time.

Got a NOS cylinder on the way. I won't be happy untill I have to use both hands on a 'D' handle. LOL

Ambull: We are talking XL-101 and you are refering to an earlier sand cast model?

Super 925 xl

Local lawnmower repair shop owner gave me a very very nice 925 today that a guy dropped off to him to repair or scrap. He didnt want to mess with it so he gave it to me. Saw has a bad cylinder/piston/rings they are very badly scored. Anyone know if another cylinder will work or if it has to be a 925? Dont know to much about the old homelites but im sure someone here does. Thanks

My guess is that JP was refering to his monster McCulloch Kart saws. Steel cylinder liner.

Homelite 6-22

Found a saw on craigslist last night. I've been keeping my eye out for one for over a year now. Ever since I picked up my EZ6 I've been wanting to get it's sister the 6-22. I picked it up before work last night and stopped by my parent's house to snap some pictures. It seems to have pretty good compression and turns over smooth. Only thing I can see missing is the bucking spike. It was built in Port Chester and has the 3.57:1 ratio. Came with a nice 38" or so cut hardnose bar with helper handle, it has some minor rust but should clean up pretty well.

Thats a really nice 6-22 Bryon - congrats on the find. These old gear drive Homelites have great pulling power with long bars in big timber. I love using my old 707G when I get the chance.

Best of luck with getting it going again.

Chris.

Homelite 650/1050 Clutch

Does anyone know if a 650 spider clutch is interchangeable with a 1050? Or where I can get a clutch for my 650?

XL-101 dilemma.

The NOS XL-101 cylinder arrived today but now we have another problem. The new cylinder is one for a 1 15/16" pilot and we have a crankcase with a 2" cylinder pilot bore. Both have the same P.N. by the way. 63165-A

Big question is will it work?

I'd hate to have it start shifting around while running.

Had a small victory today. I was giving a Homelite XL a while back and it has a mint cylinder and strong compression but no spark.

I took it apart this afternoon and after cleanign all the dirt out I sanded and cleaned the points and now have a very bright blue spark:clap:

I have read about people doing this with great success and now glad to have been there done that.

Will fuel the saw later and see if it will run with out dumping oil in the crank from the oil system.

What is the trick to getting that nasty little clip off the sprocket drum:msp_mad:
