I had some good luck buying saws off CL. Never any problems.
Been looking for a used car for my daughter so I'v been searching CL also. Found a very nice used Honda, low miliage and a great price. I e-mailed the seller about the car and this is the responce from her.

Hi, first of all I want to thank you for your interest in my 2004 Honda Accord
EX-L. I sell it at this price $ 1.900, because i have just finished a divorce. I
have it in Boynton Beach,FL because i live here. It has only 29000 miles. The
car is paid off, clean title,i have the title in hand. The divorce finished 6
months ago and the Honda is mine now. After the divorce I was forced to buy a
new house. Following the financial crisis I can't afford to pay the bank and i
have decided to sell the car. My ex-husband bought it and has only been garage
kept. As you can see from the pictures it is in excellent condition. It has many
extras including a/c,cruise control, am/fm, trunk liner, spare is brand new, all
manuals are included,2 keys, navi, leather. I had the oil changed about 2 weeks
ago. This Honda runs as good as a new one and has no dings, dents, or scratches.
From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure
pay. I prefer the payment to be done using e Bay services (I will receive the
payment only after you receive and inspect the car and only if you agree to buy
it). We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at e Bay and I
have a purchase protection account. The last price for this is $1,900, no
trades, only cash and only with e bay, because I cannot sell otherwise. I will
pay for shipping and handling(the loan of my previous buyer didn't get approved
and he paid the shipping costs) so there won't be any additional shipping
costs).
If you are interested in buying it please contact me and confirm that you wish
to buy it so I can initiate the deal through e Bay.
You will receive all the info once you email me and confirm. I cannot sell
personally that is why the price is lower than usual.
I will wait your answer (if you are interested to buy) very soon.

I think I'll stick to only buying chainsaws on CL!

I'm actually crying because I am laughing so dang much. That must be that little yellow highlighted warning on CL.
Maybe she has an 038 Magnum II that belonged to her Aunt's Brother In Law that only has about 7hours of use per year for the last 10 years too.

Quality Grammar! :dizzy: Jack, did you alter the text in the email and post it to make it LOOK like a scam??

better be careful!! it's probably CHUCK NORRIS' wife!!! or X :check:

awesome...

No I did not change anything in the e-mail.
I did do some more searching and found a past E-bay auction for the same car.

That's a real good price for a new 880 and that bar. I would think retail is around $1900 for that combo.

I made a deal to buy an Echo 600-P for $250. It was described to me as "new in the box." We were talking about it on this thread earlier.

The seller is bringing it to the fire station where I work. I have plans in place to guard against the danger of it being stolen. I haven't done a deal like this on a chainsaw before, I'm just thinking I'll crank it up and make sure it runs. Are there any other red flags you guys can think of?

I have some minor concerns about the saw being counterfeit, stripped down, or in some other way not what I expect.

Counterfiet is probably not an issue. It is 100 to 150 less than any new in box 600-P I have seen. Get a reciept with the sellers name and address the saw serial number and model number and ask to see a picture I.D. If it is legit the guy won't mind, if it isn't he will probably not want to do that.

If he complies then thank him profusely for such a great deal. If he doesn't....well it is up to you. :dizzy:

It might be a sting operation...or not. Unless you union supplies you with free legal counsel you probably couldn't even talk to a lawyer to defend yourself against recieving and concealing stolen property for the full retail price of a 600-P.

I once worked building a nuclear power plant. 6000 well paid workers to market to. Word got around that a guy had some great deals on chainsaws but he had a limited supply, factory close out or some such thing. They were less than half the retail price and still in sealed boxes.

I was in chain saw heaven at the time, I had just purchased a Poulan 4.2 but I almost bought one. I am sure glad that I did not.

It seems that they came from a hardware store about 100 miles away that was broken into. It didn't take long before the 5 or 6 guys that bought the saws were contacted by the police. They had cought the perps and were rounding up the recieving and concealing low hanging fruit. Lesson learned on my part, Just not worth it. If it seems to good to be true.....it just might be.

Good luck and let us know how it comes out. There are good deals out there, you just have to protect yourself.

Personally, I think the guy meeting you at work SHOULD show enough gumption on his part that he's not a thief...BUT, one never can tell, now can we? :dunno:

I HOPE you can judge someone's character a BIT better than THAT...

Honestly, IF I was selling a saw, and some guy wanted my address, phone number, name of 1st born AND my ID, I'd tell him to screw... the receipt is MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH....

I don't need someone SHOWING up at the house because:

A: he straight-gases the saw
B: he wants to 'check out' the place
C: I'm not home, but the wife is.... ALONE.... :angry2:

I'm all SET giving out enough info for my CC to be hacked (READ: PAYPAL) NEVERMIND enough for my identity to be stolen, AND better yet, my family to be attacked.:msp_rolleyes:

...people are CRAZY these days :msp_ohmy:

BUT, Stephen, I see your point...

I have been told the seller is a real a''ss:laugh:

Yeah, I like how he always wants a possible buyer to call him. Once he gets the number he always calls. Same thing all the time, checking on the weather. LOL hope your happy Bill we got a good rain again up here. Slowed us down from finishing first crop. Been staying dry down there?
