Union County

Is Cleveland in Union County?

No, that would be the Maynardville area just North of Knoxville. I'm in Bradley county just North of Chattanooga, TN.:msp_scared: By the way, it's not where I'm originally from. I was born and raised in upstate NY just South of Buffalo. Talk about snow!!! I also did a lot of cutting in those years just to stay warm, all we had was an old Franklin stove in the old farmhouse I grew up in.

FOUND: Stihl Chainsaw

Found on Route 66 near Marlborough/Hebron town line: Stihl mid-size chainsaw

When: 11/09/12 @ 2pm

If you lost this saw email me. If you can describe it, I'll be happy to return it.

If you "don't remember the model" or any other unique details, don't bother emailing. I wasn't born yesterday. You should keep better records of your stuff.

After 12/10/12, I'll take this ad down and absorb this saw into my own inventory.

Sounds fair to me.......

I have the right-handed version of this trimmer:msp_wink: I was once told (way back) to go get a metric crescent wrench from the tool crib, and weren't they surprised when I actually came back with one! This was during the time when the USA was first being infiltrated with metric stuff. Apparently my associates hadn't been paying attention to what it said on the side of the tool! Wish this individual knew what directions were as that trimmer may leak, or do all kinds of funky stuff like only cut to the left or something.

I don't see where the seller states it's rare.
If he wants to sell a bolt then let him.

In my world old, antique, vintage implies: Rare, because you can't find many of them any more. It must be a gray area for others.

Here is a link from Stihl about fakes, you will notice when they are destroying them at customs that they show them with Stihl numbers on the parts, they are however...bogus!!! STIHL - STIHL warns about imitations

That video is lame. Why would Stihl care about 1106 1109 series saws. The patents ran out many years ago and they dont make those parts anymore.

The other saws may be painted the same color but it is obvious they are clones.

A few years back one of our site sponsers, Baileys, was going to offer a turnkey chinese 090 but ran into a few problems.
If you check out their site you can find enough repop parts for 1106 from china to build one complete. Bailey's - Chainsaw Parts > Parts for Stihl Chainsaws > Parts for 070/090

If stihl wont sell us parts or saws why get so bent if others will.

Nothing new under the sun. When the patents ran out on VW and Harley Davidson there were plenty of companies that stepped up and started building them.

Today you can buy a brand new 1947 Harley Knucklehead without a single part made by Harley.

Same with the VW in various forms.

You live in a world where Brazilian 090s and Mexican Beetles are fake. :dizzy:

Sadly, I am a purist. Too much of what was once good is now sub-par due to "I can build it also cheaper". We live in a world where anything goes and the concept of doing your best in all you do has gone out the window in favor of expedience.

So, the Stihls built at the plant in Virginia Beach are fakes, also?

My point is as I have stated before; Stihl wants these saws to go away. I mentioned how they have harassed Scott over at Chainsawer for selling parts to fix the old ones (and they were real used parts). Stihl feels they own the patent on the saws and have discretion over parts etc.. If I was to build something and sell it, it would piss me off if someone else copied it and said "it's okay because it's not really the same as yours". We have crossed the line of respect for the work of others and their right to sell or make obsolete their products.

And my westmoreland Gti.

Stihl sells and has saws built in various countries. The saws that are being built that Stihl has not sanctioned i.e. the 090 are fakes because they did not have the rights to build them. It's not okay to just go ahead and build something without permission of the original patent owner, just because you have the know-how. It's all an issue of legality! I never stated that all saws built outside of Germany or the USA, including China and Brazil were fakes; just the 070 and 090 which Stihl has discontinued.

Ok.. I don't wanna fight... I don't even like stihl. I just love vws. I have owned 16 and a half of them and a handful of audis and I'm only 33 yrs old. I own and run a (now fairly dormant as I raise some kiddies) performance vw diesel shop that sees mostly the fake Mexican vws. My wife's passat is one of the few German made vws I have ever owned.

Some things are just the way they are.... As you stated above, the world is headed in a dif direction than those of us that want to stay a close knit country/community. Too much power in the almighty $$$. It's been this way for a long time and recent events will only push us farther in that direction.

Anything that is pushing to cost vs value mark gets faked.
