Sadly, I am a purist. Too much of what was once good is now sub-par due to "I can build it also cheaper". We live in a world where anything goes and the concept of doing your best in all you do has gone out the window in favor of expedience.

Sadly you seem to be living in some kind of dream world. There is nothing new under the sun and our daily objective is "TO DO IT BETTER" than before
and to build it cheaper.

Sadly again what if I told you that the Legendary STIHL Lightning Contra 070 was only a copy of a saw made in Canada two years before its release in 1958?

Yes its true, Stihl copied the IEL Pioneer RA and JA models. Same with the gear drive vesions they released a few years after the Canadians marketed theirs. See the 700G 850 and 1850 geardrives and compare to dates on Lightning G and GS.

Model Profile: JA

In all fairness though Seattle Mill and Mine, "TITAN Chainsaws", copied an early Stihl twin from thye 30's when the war broke out. They used to sell the Stihl saws prior to WW2 and once we went to war all rights to Stihl patents were off.

Ok.. I don't wanna fight... I don't even like stihl. I just love vws. I have owned 16 and a half of them and a handful of audis and I'm only 33 yrs old. I own and run a (now fairly dormant as I raise some kiddies) performance vw diesel shop that sees mostly the fake Mexican vws. My wife's passat is one of the few German made vws I have ever owned.

Some things are just the way they are.... As you stated above, the world is headed in a dif direction than those of us that want to stay a close knit country/community. Too much power in the almighty $$$. It's been this way for a long time and recent events will only push us farther in that direction.

Anything that is pushing to cost vs value mark gets faked.

They are now building the Passat in Chattanooga, TN. There was word they plan to expand and build one of the Audi's here, but that may fall through.

Does look a lot like the contra, never saw one of these. Do you know how many of these were produced, or if they held a patent that was ignored, or more likely bought out by Stihl? As your last statement says; when Stihl has a patent it's a done deal.

I don't think they could pull a 36" either. Just another instance of that seller being full of BS. BTW. it seems that the majority of the saws he has for sale are advertised at 167psi compression... I think his gauge must be stuck. :dizzy:

That looks to be correct to me, whilst my 480 does not have the manual oilier, it does not mean that they did not add one at the end of its service life. My 480 will pull a 36 inch bar all day long and throw oil off the tip but I would leave the 36 inch bar to my 2100 and keep the 480 to less than 30,

I saw this and wondered how this got rare? I was in ACE Hardware yesterday and see them all the time! Old Antique Vintage McCulloch Chainsaw Bar Mounting Bolt 51423 Fits LG Frame | eBay

Not once did the seller say it was rare. You are they one that said that. The seller is a person selling a product. If you are not interested then pass it by and lose the attitude.

It appears as of right now 11:39PST you have 33 posts. I bet nearly all are in this thread. If all you have to do with your time is be a PIA then why are you here
