what about ride sharing?

we have enough time, for those with long hauls. why not try to meet up with someone else and share a ride.
Do not feel like you need to bring a pick up truck. I have a dually and also have a sixteen foot dovetail trailer , That i could throw some side boards on pretty quick.
Or if anyone is planning on coming in to town the night prior, the wife and I could probably meet for drinks.in Martinsville

Brandon (computeruser) and I have ridden together on several occasions. He may have some alternate plans for this trip. I know he said he wanted to visit some friends along the way or on the way back...May just have to load up the camping gear and set up camp for the night. Save enough wood for a campfire!!

how far to the east of 37 are you?...i'm down by crane naval weapons.... done a lot of work in martinsville

I will be here to.,

Somehow we need to figure out how many are for sure coming.. so I know how many beans to cook.\
I would hate to run out of gas, I mean food.

Looks like 3 so far, and you make 4.

Be nice if Steve could make it...you out there Steve?

Also...are we going to need big saws with big bars? Planning on bringing my 361 16" and 441 20" (unless someone else has it, something may be in the works.)

20 inches for the most part will work

Have to figure the timber buyer took all the big stuff. Although he did leave a few piles of crotches and such. I worked on a bunch of Hickory today. Got three truckloads split up. Two went to a buddies house and one to my OWB. I like to refer to the OWB as my "magic box" you put wood in it and it disapears. I am going to try to scrounge up some decent logs for those wanting to make cookies. Some red oak or something else soft. LOL
I am hoping someone brings a CSM.

Hardly..I would think a 32 would get anything.

I have a red oak that split, when the fell it. I will try to get it relocated to the firewood site. If I can pick it up with the front end loader on either of our tractors. It is not to far away and it is within 75 feet of the road now. If I can not pick the halves up I might be able to atleast get each end up and get a piece of log with a notch in it under each end. So we won't be working right on the ground.
I did have a big basswood log, That was not going to be sold. due to the 22 cents a board foot offer. I said I would make lumber out of it instead. I will see if I can find it.(logger might have already hauled it to his mill for me.)
I am hoping it will freeze towards the end of next week. I did not get accomplished today what I wanted to due to cutting wood for myself.
How long of rips can you handle? That might make moving that red oak easier if I need to cut it to 8-10 foot lengths.

Well, that all depends. If I load up my unistrut, Im limited to just over 9 feet. If youve got a 2x8 or 2x10 some lag bolts and a level, makem as long as you want.

You say its halved??

yeah, but not exactly perfect

It split from tom to the main fork about 22 feet. It has a slight curve to it too.. I will try to get photos today.

I am still trying to pin down the time of my daughters band function. I was planning on bringing the 084, 42" bar, CSM and the 440 with a 20" if I can work out the logistics. I'll pin it down this week-end. 8 to 9' is plenty of length for a log to mill. What do you think Casey? It looks like 20's and 30's all week next week including the week-end. I am on a business trip from Tues through Fri. Miami( Bummer) I'll get you a yes or no this week-end.

I'm out. Wish it could happen, but too many irons in the fire.

Yeah, had to back out AFTER I picked up an 18" bar and loop of RSC chain for the MS460, too... Crap.

I'm in! My lovely wife is staying home from a Chicago trip with friends, so she can take Sara. I'll sharpen some chains and bring the CSM. It should be fun and cold enough to dry things up a bit. I'm no cookie cutter, but I'll take pictures for the amusement of all.

Excellent.

I am getting the feeling that this will be a milling and firewood GTG more than a cookiecutting event. Fine with me, I really don't feel like making up any new race loops anyway.

You're running 3/8" on your CSM, right? If so, I might bring an 07x with me, too. It might be fun to try one of these old powerheads on your CSM setup (if you don't mind, of course).

well I got atleast three good truckloads hauled out

Still in log form. of course. and I have many more within easy drag if enough people show.
I should have two splitters.
I need to run down to the ladies house and see what length she burns and such.

If all We need are 9-10 foot logs I can easily maneuver those around with the loader on a tractor.(I think)

How clean or dirty is this stuff?

I'm probably going to bring the 026 and the 7900. Any reason to bring any other saws?
