MCculloch 890 Bar Repair

Hello,

I have a MCculloch 890 w a 36" bar ,404 with a roller tip that broke while cutting hence no bearings. I was wondering if it is repairable or if anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks in advance. see Pics.

They are repairable, If you can find a new roller kit.
Like Randy stated they are hard to find.

Just curious!
What is this, or what are the possible models it could be?

Thanks guys!

Just curious!
What is this...

A waste of space, and a pile of unusable trash...

send it to me, i'll add it to the scrap pile, and recycle properly

well, on the other hand, i could use the recoil rope, so, maybe a case of bar/chain oil for the trouble :monkey::cry:

mlind i *may* have a replacement roller...don't trash the bar...it may take me a bit to dig it out.

Here is one I just picked up. It is a model 39 flying goose. I managed to get the parts repair and service manual as well. They are mac 39 made in 1957.

I forgot to mention the thing runs like a top it is kinda cool being able to richen and lean the carb while your running it. It seems I have seen a few of these here in the pacific northwest but wasn't willing to pay what they were selling for. Of course thats with having no idea what they should sell for either.

That would be an 890 Teddy.
Take a look at the bottom of
the block, Should be 790 and 890
stamped into the block.

Nice Mac geardrive.

count on Lee....

that's right, the 790 was a direct, and the 890 was a gear drive...

I have the direct version of this, the 790. the last digit ending in a 5, does that seem to denote a decomp valve?

Thanks.

That is a nice looking lunch box you've got! The 39 was beefed up a bit more than a typical member of the 33/35 family, with the 39 being the only version to use needle bearings in the piston. The crankcase, cylinder, piston, & rod were not interchangeable with the other variants. The fuel tank is also larger. All of the carburetor parts are interchangeable. The piston rings within the 35, 39, Mac 35, & Mac 35A saws are interchangeable.

You might want to get some new air filters. So many of these saws have only the window screen skeleton remaining after the flocking has gone the way of the pin tail chain. I used to think that was how these filters were supposed to look until I came across a lunch box which still had intact flocking. ;) They use 2 filters stacked together. I'd hit that front handlebar & spark plug cover with some good metal polish. Be careful with the medallion on the RH housing. It's made out of plastic & is glued on. I've been keeping an eye open for NOS replacements & have yet to locate some.

how do I post pictures on hear I got a saw or so you'll mite enjoy seeing

after you open the 'reply' where you would type, look to the bottom...below where you would hit 'submit reply'.

click that.

browse your computer to find the picture.

attach it.

go to the bottom of the 'manage attachments' window.

Hit close.

one step further that will put the picture up for all to view, without having to click:

once the attachment window is closed,

right click on the photo attachment ( again, down by manage attachments)

scroll to copy link location.

go up above where you type where the font, color, etc is.

click on the 'mountain'

paste the info there.

hit enter.
