"Cylinder should be inspected and re-newed if chrome has cracked, flaked orworn away and exposed soft base metalunderneath. Pistons and rings are avail-able in standard sizes only. Piston ringend gap should be 0.055-0.091 inch(1.40-2.31 mm) for Models PM555,PM700, PM800 and PM850."
I measured the rings gap and it is 1.4 mm.the manual also says it is chrome cylinder.i read on a forum for 2stroke bikes that there is a shop that is coating cylinders for motorcycles.maybe he could fix the cylinder.

In on the fence with that cylinder a groove or two can run but that looks like alot of chrome wear and all sorts. The piston is shot unfortunately.

Ebay can be pricey I pay alot in shipping too.
Mr Heimann said Bob Johnson may have pm700 cylinders so perhaps worth ringing him I don't have his number but someone will have it here. He only deals by phone and I like that.

That cylinder is gone in my opinion. I have cylinders replated from a company called US Chrome. Around 200.00.

I'm with you Brian but didn't want to condemn someone else's property and I know pictures can make something look worse but dam that poor saw got straight gas or no filter or something real bad to chew on.

Jim if your really determined to get that saw running and after a good hunt for a cylinder then you may be better off finding a whole running saw from someone here or Ebay and eather pay for the shipping it's around 300nz for a saw to come from the state's all the way here or arrange it to be dismantled and they keep the rest of it or as Brian said re chrome. Nothing is going to be cheap and it's going to take patience and never give up attitude but it can be done.

A runner would be best and throw your starter ,tank and clutch cover on it and it will still be your old saw with a new heart. They come up for sale on AS

Okay my Mac friends here is what some of you have been wanting. Includes instructions to modify your cover to fit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wrap-Aroun...556063?hash=item2ac2d7e85f:g:nGYAAOSwqrZcTlnY

Ron

That's gonna fetch a pretty penny even Billy ray swaps his around the riged 10 series saws.

The pm700 over here went for 370nz I'm sort of happy but not. They weren't going for bugger all not too long ago here. Still deals to be found privately but not on trade me I suppose Ebay is same same really. I got my pm800 for 135 about 9 months ago on that very site although the broken starter housing may have scared some away

I think replating is the best option.it cost a little more than a used cylider but if it is done right you have a new one better than the old becsuse they use nikasil now and it is better than the hard chrome.i have found some companies in england and in holland.

It could last you the rest of your life if you did go the re plate route. The only things your missing out on vs a modern saw is a wee bit of weight extra noise a inertia brake and a few rpms oh and the obvious AV system but they still cut really well

What is av system?

Oh sorry anti vibration. It's part of the charm of them
I do not plan to use it if i fix it. I have a husqvarna 450e.i know it is heavy and noisy.my real promblem is that i like tools in general.some years ago i found a smalll lathe in a basement.it must have been left there for 20maybe 30 years.ltook it.cleaned it from the rust.bought some parts.made some others and it is working fine.no real use for me but i have learned a lot of things as i did know searching for the pm.

Well fair enough I know which one I'd rather use the noise is splendid and the weight isn't too bad really. That we husky will be a nice little saw though. Good job on the lathe restoration sounds like a lovely old machine

If i had to cut big trees i would choose the mac too but for the small husqy is fine.could the piston jum happened from a broken valve reed inthe muffler?or by the oil in the mixture?we were using oil from the gas stations.it was for 2stoke bikes.

Gentlemen,if anyone knows anything about the Power Mac 310,I need to know what size pulse line I need for it.Mr.Johnson says to just use a piece of fuel line, but I need to lknow the size. Those little lines on Feebay are not cheap, around $9 ea.
I don't think Bob Johnson will ship parts out of the country.I know Tim wanted to get parts from him last yr.& he had a royal fit about shipping to Tim.Tim ended up having his parts shipped to me & he picked them up when he came for a visit.Just sayin'.
Ed

Hmmm it may well could have been the mix. Always mix your own gas. It could be just tuned far too lean. A 2 stroke engine can pull stuff in from the muffler but I would bet lean condition or mix probably. Loose carbon off the exhaust port is another probability too

Thanks for that Ed that's good to know. Not sure what the drama is with international shipping what's the difference it still goes to the post office pay the money and send it. Certainly no different over here anyway

I can imagine that an order with several items could be problematic just with completing the forms. I have shipped several things around the world (including Canada) and you do have to be sure things are documented correctly. That said, I was able to send a package to Canada recently with perhaps 25 to 30 different items under the listing of "miscellaneous chainsaw parts" and there was no real drama on my end and the guy on the other end did get everything.

Mark

As I understood it,he said he had some problem with shipping to Canada in the past.It could very well be that was because he didn't fill out a customs form.Yes,filling out a customs form is a PITA,but it's a necessity.I had to fill them out just recently & even if I put a candy bar in the package,I list it.If it's a large order he's sending, yeah it takes time to list every part. Then there's the possibility that the country the parts arer going to aren't quite so honest in the customs dept.there.They can just stick what they want in their pockets & try to sell it for extra money. They do this in Philippines & Uzbekistan too.
