I scored this one on ebay a couple of days ago - it is an 890 geardrive Mac, in need of a good cleanup. After asking the seller several times about the numbers on the bottom of the saw, they replied with the answer - 'After a quick degrease we were able to make out two sets of numbers on the bottom of the crank case. It had 790 and 890 cast into it on one side of the handle and 10649 on the other side of the handle. I hope this helps'
And help it did! 103cc's of geardrive power was too much to pass up.

She needs an new recoil starter handle, muffler assy, and handle brace clamp, but I hope the saw will someday be a runner.

Here are some pics of the saw taken from the auction

Chris.

Another nice gear drive, hopefully it wont take much to get it running besides a good bath.

Well.............some folks here have families that they spend time with. Mine got back home after a long trip, just about the time you posted. Life isn't all AS. Did I just say that???:jester:

Good job Stinkbait!!!

That 440 looks and sounds great!!!

That 440 sounds great. Can't get any better than that.
She is definately a keeper.

But man, Were you attacked by a Rottweiler,
Them jeans are all tore up.

Lee

Thanks everyone. No rottweiler, just some jeans I wear around the house when working on saws and stuff.

Large rim, so you can run 404 on that saw, if you want.
My SP 80 is running 3/8 pitch, While the PM 850 has 404. Same spline on the clutch drum.

I did temporarily have a .404" but since I thought it'd be neat to follow the good suggestions of the other members that to have two Macs that run 3/8" would be a good idea... in case I got one stuck, I could either take the other saw out and free it. Or if one temporarily is out of order, I can still use a big or small bar if I need to. I almost put the 28" bar and chain on the 610 just so I could see it all set up on a saw... but since I will likely get a new rim tomorrow, I won't bother.

Large rim... the other two are standard and mini, right?

So any (Stihl, Husky, McCulloch) large rim sprocket will work, as they all (by theory) are supplied by Oregon, right?

Be prepared to be looked at like you're on fire at the Stihl dealer. Most of them run spurs and the couple I've been and asked, I got the Jedi death stare...

OK Kyle, here's your heap. You get the 790 motor, clutch, muffler, right side starter, rear handle assy, fan cover, filter cover, and a flatback. It has no compression, so you'll be going inside. I kept the rest for...

where the hell is that 101 already?!?!

I'll box it up and probably ship it Friday...

Lol, thanks for the heads-up. :) I will try the new Husky dealer if the Stihl dealer doesn't know WTF I am talking about.

Jedi death stare? I got that from the guy behind the counter when I asked about scrap saws and parts... I wonder if the 'liability' thing is BS... and he is too much of a prick to let me take anything... when I've forked over plenty of money their way when I needed parts for the 317's. (parents own them, technically, but I do all the work on them... so I consider it mine) I will probably be referred to the shop mechanic, who is a nice guy, so I will ask him this time about saws instead of the other guy and see what he has to say. :)

CPR, your picture reminds me to ask:

Does anyone have a source for a 125 muffler? It doesn't have to be the box type so long as the inlet conforms to the exhaust port. The can I took off the saw has a smaller inlet than the port so I'm looking to get it right. Thanks, Ron

PS to all: I hope to have something to report to you MACaniacs by the weekend. :msp_biggrin:

Chris.

Just scrap it and grab a Stihl 460 or 660.
Don't waste your time Chris!

BUT, if you like those big heavy things! Then I guess you did good!!

P.S. Do you have a copy of the IPL for it that you're shipping with it? Well, probably a stupid question, lol. :) You guys have much more than I do, I think.

As for your 101 kart saw, I cannot wait... I bet it'll be a hell of a lot of fun!! :) Go forth and pwn some creamsickles...

Does anyone have any old pictures of McCulloch sales fliers or ads? I thought that there used to be some big beavers with yellow hard hats on...i will try to figure out how to get this picture up here soon. Steve

Now that I saw the suspenders, shirt, patch, and hard hat, does anyone have those they are willing to sell? I would love to wear them while cutting up wood with the Macs. :)
