Up in a corner was this yellow thing.===
I put some oil in the top end, pulled the exhaust stack, evicted the dirt dobbers from the port and can't see diddly. I'll have a close look at the p&c sometime later. The engine is perfect on the outside.

The engine is perfect on the outside, and may find a home in a 640... whichever is more 'appropriate' for the untainted engine (again, pending the internals).

Don't do that... The Mac 15 has only 2 exhaust ports and 4 transfers. It's a fun saw to run, but a turd next to the full-house 80s and 87s and yes I have one and do like it.

Freebie 1-53 lives again (well, sort of)

Got the freebie 1-53 from this:

Rebuilt the carb, new fuel line, filter, sparkplug and she runs. Also got a clutch cover from Mr. Heinmann. Took it out today for a few trial cuts and other than some minor carb tuning issues it only has one other issue, it doesn't oil at all. Pushing on the oiler it feels like something is broken/disconnected, as no oil is pumped out at all and you have to pull the knob and linkage back out again. Any thoughts?

Why would you run skip-tooth on a 16" bar? Are you talking about your 250 or a future 10-10?

the skip tooth chain idea was one of those times when my fingers were on a different page than my mind... i know skip tooth is not the way to go on short bars.... :bang:

Its actually all the rage on smaller saws, lot of skip tooth 3/8's LP comes standard on homeowner saws, like the imitation McCulloch visiting the shop right now. I would not go that route on a 10 10 until 20, 24 inch bars, and then I'd find a bigger saw. A lot of skip chain being tried around here now, Stihl shop has an 880 in to have one fitted on a 48" .404 bar at the moment. Saw owner likes the chip clearance in softer wood, eg cottonwood, soft maples. Doesn't think it cuts any slower, but doubts its faster, and way quicker to sharpen.

I am looking to put an adjustable H/L carb on teh SP125. A guy gave me a HS123A today that has adjustabel H/L screws but is not impulse line driven.

Questions are can I rejet it as I see the 123A was on 65 and 77cc engines.

My SP125 has the HS124 fixed H jet.

Is it not even an option to use the HS123 or to modify it to work?

I know Mark H has done this with his Sp125 and I Pm'd him but he is on a walk about currently.

Skip starts to make sense on long bars (like that 48" bar).........and it is a fad with short bars on high revving 346XP type saws. The crappo homeowner saws have it so that they will handle the longish (for the displacement) bars that they're being sold with.

Skip on such a short bar would make absolutely no sense on a 10-10 or 250 McCulloch. That'd just make 'em grabby and slower. I wouldn't put skip on a 10-10 until I crossed 24" (like you said) and wouldn't use it on a 250 until I went past 30" or so. Also, like you said...........in both cases I'd just grab a larger saw instead of messing with skip.

While we all may gripe from time to time about the price that a particular MAC saw brings, this ought to help us keep a perspective that certain items are in high demand.

$202.50 plus shipping. I lost interest at $50 but I planned on using it. Ron

I'm out. I wasn't interested but am amazed at the seemingly bottomless pits of money some people seem to have. Is that hat even authentic? Or is it just a yellow hardhat with a McC decal on it? It looks like it's in awfully good condition if it is from the era when McCulloch used that logo.

What has truly amazed me is the amount that people are willing to pay for a junk saw, but they won't shell out a little more money for a nice saw. There was a SP105 that I pointed out on here about a week ago, not running, no bar/chain, and missing all sorts of parts. It ended up going for about $360. At the same time, my buddy Axeman has a nice complete running SP125 with an opening bid of $600. Well, he didn't get any bids, so he relisted it for $575. I really don't want any more SP125's but I am really starting to get tempted.

I thought it was mandatory to own several of one model:clap:

I actually own 4. They just aren't all listed in my signature.

You know when you really have a CAD problem when your are actually hiding saws from other fellow CAD members...lol.

You sir have let the cat out of the bag! I think I own that many too, I stopped count to hide them from myself, that way when questioned your not lying....you really don't know how many.:msp_biggrin:
