It is definitely along the lines of an SP80, 81, PM800, PM805, PM 850

It has the AV, pretty much all the parts are analogous to one another.

There should be an ID tag in the air box, but if there is not there is probably some part number stamped onto the crankcase somewhere, or some other telltale sign I'm not aware of.

There's a lot of parts out there for 10 series Macs.

Chris

Thanks, Mark. Brilliant as ever.

Turns out it isn't the phone, it's AS. I'll Sierra Tango Foxtrot Uniform and Golf Tango Foxtrot Oscar where I can be wi####l for Super 250 provided firewood.

You clearly need to send it to me. If you cannot ID your own kids, they need to be with someone else ..... :givebeer:

(The REAL experts here will ID that saw inna heartbeat!)

Here's a link to the Super Pro 81E

Well the first SP81E were a bit of a failure with the electronic ignitions which were made by Phelon Mac replaced them with a one piece unit coloured brown from memory and presto no more probs sunshine ...... now if your removed the fan housing on these models all is reveiled as regards wether it has IE or points only an earth wire and a switch wire if it has a third wire that would go to points housing then its self explainitory

McBob.

Hey Ron ... my SP 81 has a black AF cover .... or is that irrelevant?

Ron is the Mac man!! Thank you for all the info!!!! I was thinking it was an sp81 of some kind!! But I will do a quick tear down and find out for sure!!!

More like a MAC kid who has studied the 82cc MACs, made lots of mistakes and is still learning.

I would think that would have to do with the year it was made..maybe :msp_unsure:

I don't have enough experience to know all of the color schemes but all of the SP 80-81 that I have seen have black AF covers. However it is not uncommon for AF covers to be swapped. For example I bought a SP81E with a DE80 cover and a DE80 with a PM800 cover. Also tanks get switched. And sometimes handles. Just like the large MACs there are frankensaw versions of these smaller MACs. Other than the AF cover ukeman's saw looks to be a SP80, 81 or 81E. Since ther is no decal on the AF cover it is likely that it got switched/replaced at some point. If there is no tag in the tank then the tank is likely a replacement too. ukeman, there should be two small rivet holes where the tag would be just in front of the handle under the AF cover. There are some clutch differences between a SP80 and a SP81 but you would need an IPL to figure this out unless someone here knows the difference. There was also a transition in flywheels from a 12 fin to a 24 fin as well as a two piece electronic ignition and a one piece. Get the IPLs as they are very helpful. Ron

Thanks Mark for all the muffler info an pics. I'll have to pull the muffler off my 790 and shoot a few pics. It has a round outlet like an SP muffler. It has some brazing and other mods, so I don't yet know what I have. Maybe an SP cover grafted onto a 790 can?.?.?.?

Looks like acres site is wrong, then. I based the 660 info on acres site.

Chris

Yep. Acres' site has messed up info in the 650/660 listings. IIRC, there's a top tank pic in one of the listings (650 or 660) , and one of the listings states that the saw is direct drive (when in fact they're both the same front-tank gear drive saw with minor differences). Cliff has posted pics of his 650 and 660 in this thread. The combined 650/660 IPL I have has the correct info too.

This is just a stab in the dark hear. From what I've read, the SP81 is based close to the McC 10 series. If so, would crank bearings and seals from a smaller 10 series saw work for an 81? Those are the only things I need to get mine back up and running.

GEM Muffler 2 piece

Here are some shots of my NOS GEM 2 piece kart muffler that was delivered today. It is actually 3 pieces when you count the heavy duty removable baffle. It looks like I'll be able to mount it on the kart saw with no cowling modifications. It remains to be seen whether or not I'll need to remove the sawdust deflector as the exhaust will be blowing down and forward. If I could just find some seals I could get this beast back together. Not so long ago, I found my very first bow bar saw for my collection, and it was a fairly used Mac 35A with a plunge bar.

This is the first time I did a Mac carb and I must say that it is a particular system and it took me quite some time to find out how it worked....:dizzy:

I could not get it to run until I dismantled the fuel pump and was able to soften the pump diaphragm. At the end of the day, she's a nice runner :givebeer:

I have another 35A on my bench right now (classic bar) that will make a nice sister to this one !

WOW!! Your pictures provided the memory hit/missing link!!!

I've been purusing this McCulloch thread with 600+ posts trying to learn more about my 10-10 Automatic. While reading thru the multitude of models and stories I've been wondering what model McCulloch saw it was that I remember my dad using when I was just a tyke back in the early 60's when I could first remember him using a chainsaw.

When I saw your pictures it was the biggest dejuvue as all the dormant memory cells just lit up and said; "THAT is the saw your dad had!!". Now I don't know how many variations of the 35A there were that look like that saw but I just want to say a BIG thanks for posting those pictures up. Now I know and hopefully someday I'll have one of them as a tribute to my dad and the workhorse of a man he was!!!

Why would you spray paint your saw like this? Muffler cover is good, missing a bar nut.
100MEDIA_IMAG0365.jpg

This chain gets me, what is it, it does say Stihl on the links but look at the profile...is it a Carbon Steel or ICS chain? The cutter is welded.

Came with a nice 24" roller nose bar, started on the second pull.
100MEDIA_IMAG0370.jpg

It needs some cleaning but hey....ITS YELLOW!!
With the addition of this saw I have all three versions of the 125, time to get busy and make them all runners!

Does this mean I'm catching Yellow Fever?

Couple non-yellows in that picture, take no offense... they are over 6 CUBES!!
:msp_scared: except that little one hiding in the back.

Nice collection. Are they all West Coast saws? Ron

Decompression valve or port. Ron

thanks, that was my guess (although I never would have come close to the right acronym)... not intentionally showing that I am a complete dunce, but where is it on a 10-10A? the label instructions indicate to press it. i have the ipl, but not the user manual and I can't find anything to press anywhere other than the standard stuff.
