Heya BT -
I can say that (1) sometimes a pump needs to be primed and (2) there aren't many saws that will pump at idle. My PM1000 is the only one I have that will.

Just my $.02

The best thing I did to my Echo when it wouldn't oil was to drain the oil and rinse the tank out with gasoline a couple of times then replace the oil with something besides that sticky bar oil. When most of these older saws were made I don't think that stuff was available, we always used motor oil, thinner in winter. Some of the older owner's manuals recommend motor oil, especially the diaphragm oiler type.

OK Mac Carb Fans.....

Here's a few listings that I saw in a "favorite sellers" email notification I received regarding our friends at Discount Marine. They have a TON of interesting stuff listed right now. For those that don't know, Discount Marine has hard to find NOS McCulloch parts, and NOS outboard parts. Good guys to deal with. Call or email them for more stuff.....

Walbro MAC11 Carb McCulloch Chain Saw Carburetor NEW | eBay

That carb even has a new primer assembly. Also has the AF cover stud, so it'd go well in a front tank Mac.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

McCulloch Fuel Pump Diaphragm 67357 Mac 1-10 2-10 3-10 3-10E 4-10 5-10 NEW | eBay

That's a gasket/diaphragm assembly for the 'bullfrog' carbs on 1-10/2-10/etc early 10-series saws.

They also list carbs and carb kits for less exciting stuff like PM610's and PM6's...................and MUCH more exciting stuff like Kart application BDC and SDC carbs.....:msp_thumbup:

I agree that alot of pumps need to be primed,
It helps to get the remaining air out. But on the
other hand, Almost all my saws will oil at an idle.
Just not as much. The only saws that i have worked
on that don't oil at idle are the newer Dolmars where
the pump is driven off the clutch drum.

So I finally put the new oil pump diaphragm in the PM650. Manual oiler burps air. Idled the saw for about a minute, no oil coming out the bar oiler hole.

Neither the PM650 or the 10-10A oil now...The Devil Beaver 2.0 will though...sad.:frown:

i've had to prime those 610's to get them oiling like what others have mentioned here. I keep some 30wt in a oil can and squirt it in the oiler and in the crank case hole to purge the air out. so far it has worked good. if you find out what you need to get those two saws oiling again, let me know. i still got lots of oilers and gaskets for those two series of saws.

i've also noticed that my saws will oil just a little bit when idleing. if the B/C are off i can see it running out the hole. its not much but it does come out.

I have discovered that the biggest flaw of the sp125c

when cutting firewood is - everybody else stops to watch and listen to the old MAC.

Here are a few photos of a small workout this morning.

check this SP60 i picked up, it came with the extras pictured. i purchased this from the original owner who said he barely used it. well, he has used it enough to flip bar. it will look good when i clean it up. i haven't ran it yet but i did put my other SP60 on ebay, it is almost as nice.

i also picked up a titan 57, it is super nice. what should compression be on this saw? i got 210psi on my gauge that i always use, the saw seems to be harder to pull than my PM700. this thing needs a decomp valve.

Damn... that's a lotta psi for a plastic Mac...

Once warmed up, my 850 is nearly impossible to pull over without the decomp pushed in. It'll hang from its own weight pretty much forever...

Something's wrong with my Matco compression gauge... it only reads around 90 psi when I tested the saw cold, and 120 when hot!!

Inconceivable and impossible... unless the little valve stem core in it is bad. Still gotta find that bag of valve stem cores around here somewhere in order to see if that fixes it.

Tested it on the 610, which as we all know is a pretty much indestructible saw, and can be used as a benchmark to determine if a compression gauge is faulty given it's a good runner (mine is)... tested at a mere 100 psi.

Hmm... two smokes don't like to run much under 110 psi...

Still didn't find that pm (really, I just can't get myself to search the pm's again. I'm pretty sure it isn't in there.)

So... probably will bring it to that shop Monday to get it bored out. Hopefully the guy isn't real busy so I can see how it's done and inquire about his previous works that he had to bore out. It's gotta be done right.

Hey ProMac!

Nice to see you again ... be advised that the springs in the cores used in compression gauges are waay weaker than those used in tire valves .... don't ask how I know ..

Kyle, my gauge stopped working a while back too. I tried the A/C valves someone suggested on AS but they didn't work for me. But low and behold after taking out and putting back in the original valve several times while trying to get the new ones to work, it started working again. You can also rotate the "let off" valve for it if they are the same. Ron
