I have a pro 700 w/maybe 20hrs on it & my recent purchase is an eager beaver 2.1 which i plan to use alot. The 700 is going on ebay as soon as i start listing items on there. It is too heavy and slow compared to my stihl's but my dad bought it new way back in the early 80's so it will likely bring as much if not more than he paid for it originally.

Yeah between your two Macs (PM700 and a mini-mac), the mini-mac is for sure the one to keep. Wouldn't want to keep the well built PM700 that your DAD bought new (he'll be around forever, so you don't need to keep a fine old saw for sentimental reasons)....:dizzy:

Nobody uses a PM700 for anything useful anymore either...

I gotta start making nice with the local scrap guys. Unfortunately I don't do any business with them on a regular basis.

Local mill has .63 404 ripping chain and I have a nice Speed Mac 36"...and he said he likes beer I said I'll bring all my big roller bars he said sure:rock: Local summer ale he gets......and the lable is yellow:hmm3grin2orange:

What would be the biggest obstacles if I were to try to make a SP81G. I just recently sold my 2-10G so I don't have that gear box to look at. I'm seriously considering a gear drive SP81 if it can be done easily.

It can't be that tough, exchange front halves, convert to AV using the rest of the 82cc donor.

Yea, but the stroke is different so wouldn't you have to have a crank specific to a geardrive or are the crank ends the same on the 70cc gear drive and the 82cc direct drive saw? I brought this up before too and thought that the crank/clutch side ends were not the same. If they are compatible, then I am in too.

i hope they are the same. i got to find a donor 10-series gear drive now. anyone have a lead on a toasted on?

IIRC the 82cc 10-series saws have larger crank bearings than the smaller saws in the series. Between that and the longer stroke (which means more crank clearance is needed), you'd have to machine the oil tank/gearcase. Then there's the bolt spacing of the block/oil tank halves of the 82cc saws. I have an NOS 82cc saw block I could measure, but I don't have any oil tanks from disassembled 54-70cc 10-series saws to compare with.
