So I've got to ask, if you are shipping tools from Europe back to Europe I'm assuming you must be giving really competitive prices :)
The USA have the best prices for buying chainsaws , see how much cost the 661 to Germany , italy , uk and you understand.
Now order the 661 from USA and then proove to the customs that you are not elephant, when the saw arrive, and dont make the mistake to tell them that is a gift from your first cousin the live in usa.

No I get you on the actual new saw prices, I was more surprised on the Stihl special tools prices.

I know we all pay a lot more even for 2nd hand saws in Europe, but I always thought that prices on things like parts and special tools were going to be similar regardless of US or Europe. So I'm guessing that the prices are really good if it can still work out cheaper to get them shipped back from the US. Angelo seemed to suggest so.

I keep thinking I'd really like the Stihl seal extractor, but the price in the UK is too much to justify based on the little I would be using it.

However, if someone had one for a good price, who am I to turn down a bargain?

Yes, I know the one you mean on ebay, kwikchip? Also I use D & L for parts. But the cost of the seal puller for a hobbyist like me is difficult to justify, I could get another broken saw to fix for that kind of money :D

you can make one if you want , very easy , i tell you the dimensions , you just need a grinder and a drilling tool, then for more accuracy you can buy the oem jaws , sale separatelly or you can make them also. the cost is zero or only for the 3.1 jaw and 6 jaw theese use for the most saws and trimmers.

I struggle to think of anything, that's cheaper in the uk!

I'd really love to be able to kit out my garage with all these tools... Don't really have the time or space, though, sob  I'd probably then have to learn how to weld to make it all worthwhile...

Hi guys

Well the parts turned up today. I've not done the installation I just looked at the tools, and I'm a bit puzzled. Firstly the mounting (installing) sleeve only goes a fraction of the way up the shaft:

I'm not sure that I see the use of it... since it does not reach the horrible shoulder just before the housing. Could it be that it's purpose is to pre-open the seal lips so that when the seal reaches the shoulder they have opened up a bit?

Also with the pressing sleeve:

there's a weird stub/lump at the end. Anyone know what that is for? Also does anyone know if I'm holding it the right way? The other thing I found weird about this tool is that it's internal diameter seems a lot bigger than the shaft, so I can't see how this thing is really any better than a decent socket.

Does anyone know how these tools are supposed to work, before I break something again!

Any advice, explanations, much appreciated.
Matt

Wait for our friend Pantelis I think he has those tools I never used them.

A ha! I just thought perhaps the lump on the end of the press sleeve is to help you grip the tool. In fact then you can probably put enough strength onto the job, SO THAT YOU DON'T NEED A HAMMER! ;)

Just a thought... who knows the truth? As usual I'm prepared to seem a bit silly when/if someone gives me the expert answer!

Cool, thank you Lone Wolf, my friend. We are about to have tea here in sunny england... so I can certainly wait!

But as I said in post #132 I think I guessed the answer. I think it helps you "press" not "hammer" the damn things in.

Just a guess that the sleeve will fit the flywheel side better. There really cant be much to that one all you can do is put it on the shaft then slide the seal on I dont see no other options.

Yeah, maybe. We'll have to see what Pantelis thinks.

I'm certainly interested in his opinion on both tools. And "big t double"'s if he's out there. I think in earlier post he mentions using the press tool.

Later,

as far as the press sleeve you ordered...I went back a few pages and seen you ordered 1123 893 2400, which it looks like in your picture...if so this is the wrong sleeve for the 200t, the one you have might work but isn't the one that's called for.... it should be 1129 893 2400. as far as the other sleeve goes... im not sure. you originally showed you ordered part number 1123 893 4600 which isnt even a good number, but the one in your picture is definitely the right part number, and that's how its shown to work in the service manual but outside of that I cant answer, ive never used one of those....I just rock the seals back and forth till I get it over the lip.

Yeah, I'm not that pleased about the tools...

My manual says press sleeve = 1123 893 2400
and installing/mounting sleeve = 1129 893 4600

and thats what the bags the tools came in say. Perhaps the manual has a typo.

(Reading more of manual now)

The instruction page of the service section 8.3 says the tool is 1123 893 2400... but in the special tool section at back it says 1129 893 4600. I can't say I'm that pleased with the manual right now.

Anyway thanks big t double
