More than likely this tab that my pointer finger is touching is broken off the throttle trigger...that's what catches on the master control lever to stop it at half chokeimage.jpg

If that's not broken then it's the white switch shaft. More often then not though I find the tab on the trigger broke off.

I can't quite remember. (I'm at work now so can't check). I think it does the same - i.e. goes straight from fullchoke to running.
Sounds like the spring is not holding on the base of the selector cam or out of whack or missing maybe. Just check your old parts next to the new ones and see whats amiss.

big t double - you're a genius!!!!

I've token the old one apart, slowly - a few times just to be sure I know how it all goes back together, and compared the parts with the bits in the new handle.

It took my untrained eyes a while to spot, but yes you're right, it's because that plastic tab has snapped from throttle trigger, so the trigger can't catch on half-throttle. So I guess that means, in theory, I could refurbish the old handle and resell, seeing as I have a whole new one here.

I guess people snap the tab 'cos they try to set the choke without depressing the levers???

I think all the springy things are good - it's just that throttle trigger tab....

Hey folks,

Sorry, I've not posted to this thread for a couple of days. Well I got the side handle transferred to the new top handle. I went ok, till I decided to test that the on/off function of the switch was working right before throwing it back together. It wasn't. I checked with the multimeter and it looked as if it one of sprung things wasn't contacting the pin in the shaft quite right... It took a bit of messing around, I eventually put the old shaft, onto the new housing before I was happy with it's working. Well, perhaps, I just hadn't reassembled it properly after the side handle change, I dunno, anyway, it's ok now, and now I could probably strip and reassemble that housing back together in my sleep! :)

The next "interesting" part was getting the intake boot back through housing. But yeah, I got some string round it and managed to wiggle it through in a couple of minutes.

Well it almost looks like a 200t again now. The next job is to clean the carb. I've got me:

1129 007 1062 (gaskets/diaphrams)
4116 121 5100 (needle)
1123 121 7800 (strainer)

so I'll look at doing this, maybe tomorrow.

Do you guys know if methylated spirits (alcohol) is ok to clean the carb, or should I only use neat gasoline? I've no "carb cleaner" spray, and I don't really want to buy any right now....

Later
Matt

I would not use alcohol! Use carb cleaner spray it works best.

Carb cleaner comes in an aerosol, a can is about £4 from any car spares place. The point being that you can remove the hi & lo screws and spray it down the holes and any other little orifices to make sure it's not blocked.

Cool, thanks for tip about the carb cleaner. I'm out in the sticks in the uk... Hey, Dan, so do you think Halfords sell it?

Don't get annoyed with my guys, but, don't really want to drive to town tomorrow... ;) I've got a fullish can of WD40, though. What about just spraying the ports with that straw on that, then a final rinse with neat petrol?
