Partner 500 / 5000

A couple of questions,
I picked up a fairly nice 500, compression 196 lbs. It all appears to be there and I'm just going through it before firing it up.
Is the fuel line 1/4 OD 1/8 ID? There was 3/16 OD in it which is the size of the hole in the tank. Not sure if the tank hole has been drilled.

I also got a really nice powerhead 5000+ with a scored piston. I saw lots of older posts where people were trying different pistons to try and get one to work. Did anyone ever have any luck with this?

Thanks

Tim

Tim, the fuel line should be 3/16. Possible someone did drill it out. The vent hole sometimes uses 1/4" od. There were several different vent types. A windowed Husky 246 piston is what you want for the 5000+. You'll need to widen the pin bosses a little to get the rod end to fit it. Let me know if you need any parts for these... I have tonage. :)

Thanks Ed. I'll let you know if I need any parts. The fuel line hole is at 3/16" so I'm guessing some stump drilled it out because he couldn't feed the line through. I'll put some 1/4" in it.

I'll check out the 246 piston when I get back from vacation.

Poulan Pro 325/Partner 5000s

I believe my 325 is a partner 5000s. The Walbro wt109 carb is shot and I don't seem to be able to find a new /used one. Is there another carb that will fit? Any cross reference would be appreciated.

Bob

The Poulan 325 is basically a Partner 5500 with cosmetic differences. I most likely have a used carb that may or may not need a kit in it, if you want to go that route.

Partner 500 parts

Guess i posted my interchange question in the wrong place, since i see now there is a partner thread.. hahaha. Ok whats my options for a slap on piston/cyl kit on a 500? I seen on ebay where the husky 51/55 will also work on 500? Is there truth to this? Any other options to at least put back to stock if not alittle more MM's?

Yes, the 55 Husky will work. I'd go with the 46mm top end if it were me. If your 500 is original, it should have the 44mm jug. The only difference I believe is the 55 jugs have a decomp. You can either plug it, or it may fit fine on the 500. You may need to enlarge the case a little to fit the skirt of the jug into it. Only takes a few minutes with a carbide burr on a dremel or drill. Just make sure you clean the case/bearings 100% if you grind on the case.

What about the closed port and open port will I lack power from stock even by bumping up to 46mm

Do you guys seal that boot to the carb adaptor and the cylinder with Motoseal or just leave it as is?

I do. I have done it without before, with no problems. But after seeing many from the factory with sealer on them... I feel better using a little Motoseal.

Honestly, I doubt you will ever find a closed port top end. Most guys (like me) won't part with them.
If I had to guess, the 46mm open port should get you close to a 44mm closed port. That's just a guess. Many things to factor in.

If you were happy with the 500 before, you should notice a nice difference with the 46mm with a squish set at .018".

Interesting. Wonder what I can use to replace the P&C in my PP 325? Know its similar to a partner 5500 but wonder what other brand might work.
Bob

Sorry to say, there's nothing out there. I've got lucky a few times and found nos 46mm pistons/cylinders on ebay... but not often.
