I was thinking. The only way the clutch & drum would spin easily if frozen together, but still not feel compression when pulling it over, would mean that the clutch shoe assy was loose on the shaft did you check to see if is was on tight or if it can be screwed off by hand?
That sounds like the only logical explanation. I didn't have time to really check much out. The smell of the stale gas I drained drove me out of the room. :dizzy:
There's not a key on that shaft that could be broken, is there ? Maybe I should beg for an IPL, huh ?
I'll try here 1st. It's a P40. Send to brianvt16 at comcast dot net

No key on the clutch side of a P40

IPL sent.

Ed- you'd be proud of me. I caved into a little P-series CAD today. I saw this un-loved P-61 sitting on a pawn shop shelf and snatched it up. I got it for less than two bits since the compression is low, but the compression is low because the decompression valve is loose. :)

Im glad you have all the parts, I was worried I cleaned you out. :) I agree, the 61 and 62 are my favorites also.

Did they make a decomp plug for those saws? Mine is leaking too, it seems like it won't pop all the way out.

Might have seen a key or two on the clutch side, but that'd be many moons ago & probably homemade.General rule of thumb,"Flywheels keyed, clutches screwed". {Side Note} Im sure all the fuel lines are the consistency of bubblegum by the way you describe the gas.

Good find Jacob, looks like a good solid chassis to do a resto on. I am sure when it is completed it will be in top form.

Jerry, these can be real good runners as you know, but of course it would be very desirable to find a P-60 jug with the bridged exhaust. :)

You can still buy the valve new. Or you can plug it with a standard 5/16" plug.

Yes, the valves are pretty easy to come by since they're a generic type of compression release used by several manufacturers- McCulloch, Pioneer/Partner, Chrysler/West Bend, and I think even Homelite on some models.

I believe a plug can be had at any NAPA or hardware store with a good fastener selection, same thing on bar nuts.

I can`t believe I passed on one of those a year ago, it was a brand new OEM replacement bridged exhaust and boost port P&C for a P60-62. I turned down the offer as I was not heavily into the P series saws.

JJ, nice score. Looking forward to the resto. Is it a "W" by chance? The front handle would hint so.
