Most of the real Pioneer chainsaws stopped production around 1985, they merged with Partner for a couple of years and were finally bought out by Poulan which used the tooling to produce the Poulan Pro line of saws.

Thanks for the intel. I have 2 running pioneers, a 1074 and a P21. I also have a P26 under construction. But seems that it will stay that way due to a lack of spare parts. In Belgium Pioneer isn't so alive as in America and Cannada. But they are still the best ;)

Too bad they are scarce in Belgium, over here we use them for landfill, although now scrap metal yards get most of them.

Now for a change I have a question. Is the BP655 considered a Poulan or a Pioneer , it looks a lot like the big Pioneer P series like the P60-62 but its a darker yellow colour and the top air filter cover has the Poulan PRO logo on it.

655

Jerry They can call it anything they want too but its still a Pioneer to me. The 405, 455 and 515 as well.
Sure is a lot of interest in the large P series saws.

I tend to agree, the 655 looks like the same design as the big P series saws and I don`t see anything that Poulan designed put into these saws. Does anyone know where these saws were built?

655

Jerry Nice lookin 655
Does it have a boost port??
Makes me wonder if these saws were made from the last run of parts from Pioneer and Pioneer/Partner. May have been assembled in the US??
I haven't picked up a large P series in nearly 3 weeks. The last one I got is a beautiful lookin P51. Saw starts and runs well but low compression. Could use a new jug assembly

Jerry,Mike Acres Site say's Poulan Pro's were made in Nashville Arkansas.

Thanks Lawrence, I wonder if that is where Poulan took all the Pioneer molds when they dismantled the works at Peterborough. Maybe that is where the airfilter molds ended up as well.

The 655BP is all pioneer with a couple improvements. As far as I know there never was a 515 but the 505 was all poulan and the 525 was pretty much a P52

Jerry and P62

If memeory serves me correctly after the plant closed down in Peterborough,Pioneer merged with Partner in Huron Park,Ontario.Did Poulan not buy up the molds for those saws from the Pioneer/Partner plant in Huron Park.

Sorry about that, my typo 525
The P52 and 525 saws are hard to find. I remember when buying my P62HP
brand new it wasn't much more in cost and the p62 was about the same weight as a P52.
Did Pioneer have all their own molds for these saws ?? Were any parts from outside makers??
Who assembled the Target saws? They were Pioneer saws painted blue and used Pioneer up to the P65. It would be interesting to talk to some of the people who worked at the Pioneer plant.

Pioneer plant! P62

I am going to remove the muffler and most likely the cylinder this weekend to check out what is in there. I was told before I bought it that there was a new P&C put on along with bearings, seals, gaskets, new carb and oilpump. The saw has 160 lbs comp cold tested with 2 different comp testers I use on all my saws so I trust them. The seller also claimed that there was only 10 or less tanks of fuel run through the saw since its rebuild. It is tight and cuts with full power with a 33" bar, and nothing slows it down.
