I just picked up a P42HP and the carb is a little different from the other Pioneers I've worked on.There are the screws to adjust the H and L and the idle screw but there is another screw to the right of and slightly higher than the H screw, can someone tell me what it is?

Guess It's Time for Me to "Officially" Subscribe to This Thread, huh?

Snagged this yesterday from a local CL ad. Filthy, but complete with good compression and seems to have been well taken care of over the years. Had fuel in it and the tank needs flushed for starters, but no varnish or spooge build-up. Only obvious issues are the rope seems to be coming out of the recoil on the wrong side of the roller (top) and the fuel cap leaks from both the vent and around the gasket/seal. One thing is for sure, the oiler works really well. Found that out the hard way. What else should I be looking at/for before attempting to start the beast?

TIA for any input and advice.

Also picked up a David Bradley 60018 in the deal and there are some pics of it in a thread I started in the main forum.

P-41 #One.

New main bearings and crank seals and we got him back together running. Won't idle down but someone has been in the carb. before me and I don't think they got the throttle blade back in square.

The thirty inch bar/chain was the only game in town.

Wrap this one up and start on P-41 #Two.

Lookin' good Carl. Might as well fix that carb while you're at it though. Loosen the screw(s) holding the throttle plate in place and work the throttle shaft through its range to center the plate. Could be that they put it in 'flipped', and you need to take it back out and install it correctly too. If you don't like that 30" B/C I may have a 24" that I could trade ya...:D

Yup, the throttle blade edge has to match the bore. No light leaks. I messed up one of my Lombards that way.

The 30" is off the PP-655. I have two Pioneer branded 24's but being Sunday no place to make a loop.

Need to find a better piston and rings for P-41 #Two.

Those Pioneer bars almost all take an odd DL count Carl, if you didn't already know.

24" is likely 79 dl.

OK, 79 dl, dully noted. Will visit Jeff's tomorrow.

My local Ace Hardware had the 28mm Snap-Lok hose clamps to fit the rubber carb. boot spigot. Sweet! 3 USD out the door.

You fellas in the hinterland I can mail 'em to ya.

Thats good to see Carl. It looks alot better now then sitting on that shelf in my shop for the last few years! :msp_thumbup:

Oh and BTW was one of those saws missing a rubber air filter boot? I found one yesterday and thought it might go to one of those.

Nope, one had the boot w/diaper and one has the bolt on filter.

Thanks Mark.
